Dan Lungren, one of the most-conservative Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, lost his seat in Congress on Tuesday.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Lungren lost by 184 votes to Dr. Ami Bera, a Democrat.
Lungren is a former attorney general of California who ran against Obamacare.
He authored the only repeal to date of any aspect of Obamacare, among other things removing a ridiculous burden of paperwork created by the government takeover of the nations healthcare, according to his website

(154,021 posts)San Diego may very well send a Democratic Majority delegation to DC... think about that, one for a second.
The problem with Issa's district is that it is mostly rural and California rural areas ARE red, as in blood red.

Orange County almost always votes exactly the opposite of the rest of the state - Obama (44%) and Feinstein (46%) lost here.
Surprisingly, locally - city councils and school boards, Democrats did very well.

Lungren campaign manager Jeff Wyly just put out this statement:.
Dan asked me to update you on the state of our race, which is currently one of the closest contests in the nation. There are tens of thousands of absentee and provisional ballots still to be counted, and we may not know the outcome of this race for days or even weeks. We remain cautiously optimistic and will monitor the final count closely. Please look for a follow-up email on opportunities to help make sure every ballot is counted

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Less than 200 votes separate them at this point and anything can still happen.
I'm hoping Ami holds and increases his lead, but we can't assume that yet.
Brother Buzz
(36,478 posts)Ami Bera has held his own in all the polls. Early, or late, absentee votes should mirror the election results, plus I suspect provisional votes will favor the Doctor.
I know I'm projecting, but I really, really, really want to toss Lungren on the dung heap.
