(102,410 posts)Colorado's specific results, rather than those of Ohio?
Ohio Joe
(21,769 posts)I joined DU when I was living in Ohio. I first tried to use the name of 'Uncle Joe' (I had just become an uncle) but it was taken so I put in without much thought... 'Ohio Joe'. I have since moved several times and now reside in Colorado. If they do a name change thing here again, I really should pick a new name. Sorry.

(21,769 posts)I'm not certain how everything is going to shake out with it still being against federal law... I suspect the battle is still not over.
As best I understand (I do not read legalese very well), people will register with the state and then get a card that allows them to buy from dispensaries. I think this will require some changes to current law about how dispensaries operate (how much they can grow, things like that). Hopefully Raindog will chime in here and correct me and/or explain it better.

(21,769 posts)They still want to keep a close eye on things from the growing and harvesting stage to make sure it is not being sent where it would not be legal (out of state). They also don't want ounces to start showing up on shelves of the local 7-11, heh. So... Dispensaries will still be the outlet for purchase and the state will still know who is allowed to buy (hey, they want their fee).
Now... As far as I know, anyone who can prove residency can get a card to purchase it with nobody being denied, just fill out the form and go buy. This is the reason some people opposed it here, they did not want to register with the state. It is by no means a perfect law but it is a good step in the right direction.

(17,087 posts)The legislature has to implement regulations for production and retail sales (and tax it ) which will take some time. But, the Governor has to sign the new law within 30 days of the election, and simple possession of small amounts will be effectively legal immediately afterwards.

(4,876 posts)The vote has to be ratified by Gov Asshole.. I mean Hickenlooper which is expected within 30 days of the election..
Once the vote is ratified, possession, I believe of under an ounce, is totally legal.
Then within a year you should be able to buy at a licensed store. Probably liquor stores and dispensaries.
The passage of 64 is not decriminalization, it is a total legalization of personal marijuana use for those over 21. It is to be taxed and regulated and sold just like alcohol.

(9,709 posts)before it can be sold legally from stores and such..but simple possession of up to an ounce will now be legal here starting Dec. 6th..unless of course, the feds get involved.
May I remind you, however, that I said Dec. 6, she said. Proceed at your own risk.
