A HERETIC I AM

(24,380 posts)
Wed Nov 7, 2012, 09:43 AM Nov 2012

I'm thrilled the president won, but one other thing is making me smile this morning

The fact that Ann Romney has been denied the opportunity to become First Lady.

I'm thinking to myself, what is she going through this morning? She doesn't get to ride on Air Force 1. She doesn't get to redecorate the White House. She doesn't get to hobnob with world leaders. She doesn't get to spend weekends at Camp David. She doesn't get to sod over the vegetable garden.

But most of all, she, like the rest of us, get to keep as first lady, one of the kindest, sweetest, well educated, eloquent, down to earth First Ladies we have ever had!!

Sorry Ann, but you couldn't hold a candle to Michelle.

Hey, one thing - and I almost hate to be altruistic about this, but - soon enough, I suspect she may become much happier, even grateful, that her husband lost. It may actually prolong her life.

She's still got a disease that is incurable. It's only gonna get worse as she ages. I've read that stress aggravates it, and she would not have a nice quiet low-pressure life if she were First Lady. Even if HER part of it was still fairly mellow and manageable, watching what mitt would have to deal with and sudden international crises and stuff - would be pretty rough on her, I'd guess. She wouldn't have any privacy (which she'd probably come to hate), and her presence would be required at tons of public events (which she may well come to resent). That would become more difficult with time, and there might be fears of exposure if she's out in public too much, as her health and her immunity system both decline and she becomes more physically delicate and vulnerable. She may not want to spend even a few minutes shaking hands with every Tom-Dick-and-Carrie who jumps in to invade her space and get a photo of him/herself with her.

For ayn wrongney, that kind of high-pressure existence would become increasingly uncomfortable and probably even dangerous to her health. So this outcome may actually prove to be far better for her personally. I'm wondering if perhaps she senses that already.

And Jill. I love them both.

Ann was so entitled. I wanted to give her a chance at first. I really did not have major issues with Cindy McCain. But wow, this woman. Cindy McCain has money but she was never this spoiled. I feel bad that Ann has an illness but she seemed to care less about those that had the same issues but not the power and money she has. See ya, Ann Romney.

Just the thought of those two beautiful girls leaving the White House forever would have killed me. They need to be there for the next four years, so important in their young lives to have that period of transition. In 2016 Malia will be 18 and in college and Sasha will be 15 and a HS sophomore. Their launch out there in the big world will be all the better for their 8 years living in the White House with their wonderful parents.

I feel like crying tears of thankfulness for their sakes...

good thing about the mitttwit run for the POTUS, is that he allowed the world to see the hate and vitriol of the american citizenry. Don't get me wrong. Hate did not win. Period. There is no way Ann could hold a candle to Michelle. I am so happy that she is off the scene!

Ok, that one really hit me. So much like Reagan taking down the solar panels. Mean, spiteful people.

First of all, Michelle has a lot of grace, humility and genuine empathy with other people. Ann is like a spoiled brat who believes she earned the white house.

Second of all, I've done dressage, and its world is pretty snobby. People like Ann have groomers, stable hands, people to chauffer their horse around in the horse van - they just show up in their white britches to the show and are handed a groomed and saddled horse.
That's what "you people" are for, to get my horse ready.

WHEW....................

92. At first, i liked Ann Romney- I had no reason to dislike her - I always felt spouses, family members

...of political candidates were off-limits and it was no fault of theirs for any flaws or issues one might have with the political candidate him or her self.

But then as Ann Romney started campaigning for her husband and doing interviews, she "revealed" herself and who she is. It was after watching her make statements, share her "values" and opinions that closely mirrored her husbands and showed me a woman who really is not only a lot like her husband, but really part of the "team" the "fabric" of what Mitt Romney stood for. She really and truly is "the love of his life" and partner in "crime" if you will. I came to dislike her passionately and my name for her was "Marie ANNtoinette Romney" - Let them eat cake!!!!

And the same process applied to Michelle Obama revealed who she is.....that she shares her "values" and is very much like her husband, Barack Obama, and that is what she stood for. The "Love of Obama's Life", Michelle Obama, his partner, the fabric of what he stands for is what is love, is it what is right and everything I love.

And I am smiling this morning because two people, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are in the White House and representing and being all that is to be loved.

Good call. We won't have to see all her friggin sons and worthless grandkids either. Good grief, maybe they'll all drown in the next hurricane and we can really have a party.

Express how one feels, and you go off on a tangent that assumes the poster wants the entire Romney family to perish in a drowning death and then we can dance on their graves??? WTF????

Dont know where you came to that conclusion, but you couldnt be more wrong nor have a true understanding of what DU and what supporters of the Obamas feel...

along with the rest of the family. Nothing they ever said or cared about resonated in any meaningful way -- it was just a compilation of oddities that appealed to their petty and hostile base. Her hostility was always so near the surface. For all her riches and travels, she didn't seem wordly at all. She seemed to shrink in stature the more you saw of her (wow, a lot like Sarah Palin's persona shrank).

Michelle, otoh, always comes across as a graceful, intelligent and worldly person. Wise yet fun. And she is constantly growing in her role(s) in every way. Michelle is world class all the way. We are so lucky to have her.

Michelle is doing a great job as first lady, but I have no bad feelings for Ann. The only first lady I really disliked was Nancy Reagan.

it never seemed to me that she even wanted to be first lady. Like it would be a real imposition and certainly a step down housing wise.

I couldn't agree more. She was so smug throughout this campaign and you could tell she had a sense of entitlement. You could just sense how ready she was to replace Michelle. I remember specifically an interview she was doing with Mittens about a message they wanted to give to the President and First Lady. She said "start packing". Ugh!!!! So glad we won't have to deal with her.
