In the Dalton, GA store.
I believe this image in the tweet above is from her Truth Social account:
Walmart, many of your customers in my district are reaching out to me about sex toys being sold in your Dalton store.
They're extremely upset and absolutely horrified that sex toys are being sold openly right next to children's toothbrushes!
This is grooming.
ON Edit: I made a typo and originally identified the store location as Dalton, CO. This was MY mistake. I have corrected this reply to the correct Dalton, GA location per the original tweet. My sincere apologies to all.
And I made NO comments about the alleged photo in the tweet's comments. I did not see it, but then I did not look far in the comments. That said, I have no opinion on the subject as I am not a photo expert.
hlthe2b
(102,378 posts)Dalton, GA probably.
(There is a Dalton RANCH in Durango, but there is no Walmart associated with a private ranch).
On edit, I saw a post in the response stream to Filipkowski's tweet, but that image looks to me to be photoshopped as some others are saying too.
Tommymac
(7,263 posts)I do not go to that site, and never will. I don't know how to link just the photo in the tweet, but I did quote the text above.
And I fixed the typo - it is GA not CO. Had barby on the brain, I guess.

Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)(I do digital photo-retouching, which involves a lot of what would be referred to as "photoshopping."
It looks real to me.
Not only that, but but both products are in stock in the Dalton GA supercenter on Walnut Ave, and both are listed as being in aisle G12. So if they aren't right next to each other, they are in the same vicinity. It took me less than 5 minutes to confirm this.
(I don't care about where Walmart places its product - but I do care that we don't fall victim to confirmation bias. We want her to be making up stuff, so we assume she is and don't bother to fact-check.)
hlthe2b
(102,378 posts)which does not exist? Really?
And no, the photo does not show up for me in the OP. I went to search for it. The one I saw looks photoshopped. Regardless, I don't give a GD if a clearance rack for those items appears next to toothbrushes--even as it pains me to defend Walmart in any way. NOR SHOULD YOU unless you seek to enable/defend MTG and her outrageous conspiracy theorists which, incidentally seeks to make all Dems, Liberals, and yes, LGBTQ out to be pedophile groomers. But, by God, don't let any little error deter you in this, no matter what contortions you have to perform to defend it.
Unbelievable to see this bogus assertion and its RW meme defended here.
Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)What I said I cared about was confirmation bias - our growing tendency to skip fact checking if the "facts" fits our confirmation bias. We want her to be making crap up, so we assume she is and don't do basic fact checking.
Whether she properly identified the location of the store&& or where Walmart places its products is irrelevant to whehter we're swallowing whatever we want to believe hook, line, and sinker.
** The products are not in a clearance rack (despite the suggestion in the thread below the picture) - the shelf-tags aren't mark-down prices, and all chidren's toothbrushes are in the same aisle (see below).
** There is nothing to suggest the photo was photo-shopped. No obvious change in color or pixelation, no sharp lines, no shadows going the wrong way. The shelves holding the vibrators stick out farther than the toothbrushes because that's how shelves work.
** And less than 5 minutes on the Walmart site will give you the exact location of the items (all children's toothbrushes - not just those on clearance) and at least one of the vibrators from the image (I didn't check all of the vibrators) are housed on aisle G12.
&&ETA: I don't see any reference in her tweet or Filipkowski's to Dalton CO, and MTG is the representative from the District in GA which includes Dalton.
hlthe2b
(102,378 posts)I get it. You adore MTG and her memes.
I am not going to respond to you further. I find this sickening beyond explanation.
Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)That's where folllowing confirmation bias, rather than fact-checking, takes us.
hlthe2b
(102,378 posts)That is beyond ridiculous. Especially when enabling the indefensible. Go on and blindly accept what the far RW MAGATs feed you. Not me.
Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)It doesn't appear you did any, beyond reading unverified comments in a tweet thread (about the aisle being a clearance rack and/or photoshopped).
I didn't accept a thing far RW MATATs said. I'm not sure where you came up with Colorado - since it isn't her tweet or Filipkowski's. And MTG is the representative of the district which includes Dalton, GA. And, based on fact checking, I didn't find any evidence she is lying about the product placement.
The Dalton GA Walmart on Walnut Ave does indeed sell vibrators, and they are indeed in the same aisle as children's toothbrushes. Less than 5 minutes of fact-checking will confirm that fact. Walmart didn't just make up a site to fake us out about where to locate vibrators and children's toothbrushes.
We want her to be lying - since it would make her look like an even bigger fool than she is. That's what confirmation bias is. We hear something we want to be true, so we assume it is (and start spreading it). That is precisely when we need to fact check, so I did.
If you've done fact-checking and have evidence (not twitter speculation) to the contrary, I'd love to hear it.
Again - just to be clear - I don't care what Walmart puts next to children's toothbrushes, or what they sell. My concern is our response of skipping the fact-checking step (you're not the only one - I commented on other posts in this thread, and certainly most of the folks commenting on Twitter relied on confirmation bias rather than fact-checking).
hlthe2b
(102,378 posts)I am sure you are proud of your arguments in promotion of MTG's memes. You should NOT be.

(58,785 posts)My take on this is that you seem to have misunderstood Mrs. Toad's intent several over-reactions ago.
Our general tendency to value truth far above the pleasures of self-deception is our big strength against MAGA-sm, which cannot survive without self deception.
Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)Can you really not separate determining whether her statements are factual from the agreeing with her opinions one might hold about those facts?
Agreeing with her that the fact (shelving them on adjacent shelves) is a bad thing would be promoting her meme. I haven't said a single word suggesting I agree with her opinion/political position about adjacent shelving - merely that I don't think she is lying that they are shelved adjacently. (In fact I have expressly stated more than once that I don't care where things are shelved - I only care that we don't accuse her of making crap up when she apparently isn't.)
Polybius
(15,489 posts)So, MTG posts something about dildos being next to children's toothbrush's in a local Walmart, and then several posters call her a liar. One poster comes along and fact-checks everything, and proves that the dildos really are right near the children's toothbrushes.
And...you get mad at the poster for revealing that she wasn't lying? Shouldn't we here at DU know the truth? Or should we just label everything we don't like as likes and fake news? The fact-checker is a hero.
wnylib
(21,613 posts)It does us no good to act like MAGAs, accepting things on blind faith.
And I do see the difference between establishing the facts versus supporting MTG. It is NOT supporting RW propaganda to sort out the facts.
The issue seems to be whether or not the location of the sex toys and children's toothbrushes amounts to "grooming." I'm betting that kids don't even notice the sex toys or know what they are if they see them. Usually it's parents who buy the toothbrushes, not kids. Even if they have kids with them and let them pick out their own toothbrush, as I said before, the kids won't notice the sex toys or know what they are.
However, it is still kinda dumb for Wal-Mart to put them near each other.
It is even dumber for MTG to make a major issue out of this. Her obsession with sex is neurotic at best. But mostly thus is just MAGA political theater.
Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)It's just a way for her to keep her name in the news and garner points with her equally sex-obsessed followers.
We don't need to contribute by giving her ammunition by accusing her of lying if she's not.

(38,187 posts)The seller sets it up with whatever unsatisfied woman is hosting it. It is usually in that woman's house while her husband has been conveniently sent off to go fishing or hunting with his buddies.
The seller sits there with demo models of various sex toys, kids running all over the unsatisfied woman's living room (I once saw a kid hold up a douchebag and ask if it was a sprinkler, it was the most bizarre thing I ever saw), crosses all over the walls, Bibles on the coffee table, about a dozen other women squealing and grinning from ear to ear, and asking about battery life and which vibrator is quietest so as to not wake up and offend their husbands who promptly go to sleep and snore and fart venison gas the rest of the night after satisfying themselves.
Imagine a MLM seminar for women who are married to guys who only think of themselves and see women as "vessels." These women will not point out to those guys that they are lousy in bed. The men do not care. They only care what their male friends think, not some woman. I learned straight people in the south hate each other under all that bravado they share against gay people. I still think their homophobia is based quite a bit in jealousy due to their own unsatisfying, twisted sex lives.
Instead, the women get together with other unsatisfied women and discuss how lousy their husbands are in bed and have the sex toy parties with the sex toy seller scheduling them like any other business. That is, when they are not cheating with multiple other men to try to get some satisfaction.
The southeastern US is one freaky place full of dichotomies, oxymorons, regular morons, and lots of unsatisfied women, etc. Being a lesbian down here subjects you to all the weirdest straight people and their weird activities that they tell you is the "normal" (according to them) way to be.
My first boss was a homophobic weirdo hellbent on making me straight. I learned way too much about just how deranged the culture down here is from her. The violence came later when I told her she could not change someone's sexual orientation. Until then, she kept at me with crazy crap like sex toy parties for a bunch of married straight women and other parties for them doing other things, mostly cheating on their husbands. I hate straight culture in the south. It is sickening. That they mix religion into it is even more sickening. It is such a mindfuck.
In other words, my first boss took me to all the last places I should ever be to be around all the last people I would ever want to know.
I am SO glad for the internet so I can meet civilized, sane, more evolved people who just tell it like it is instead of walking on eggshells around southern men while letting them think they are competent enough in bed when they are clearly not. She was trying to "sell" me on why being a straight woman is better, but she just taught me how horrible it really is. I wouldn't wish that lifestyle on my worst enemy.
I am surprised Walmart hasn't stocked sex toys before now to be honest. I'm surprised there isn't a downstairs dungeon/chapel section too. The only version of religion allowed in this area of NC is a mindfuck, but underneath, they have some of the most deranged views on sex ever, walking on eggshells to keep the men happy, while the women grumble about 30 second babies and batteries not strong enough to fill the void.
One woman I worked with at that job talked about how her vibrator was in the nightstand and turned itself on one day, "calling" to her, she said. She was terrified her husband would find out she had it and take it away.
I'm honestly surprised every Walmart down here doesn't have an entire sex toy section. MTG is lying. No southern straight women would write complaining about sex toys. That just would not happen. She made that up. Those sex toys are who the straight women down here are really married to, while they walk on eggshells around the husbands, who are kept around to make money to financially support all of their 30 second children.
It felt so great when I met up with a small gay community in the state and we compared notes on how the straight people in the south treat us. The straights down here are the real freaks. We have to take years to finally get our minds unfucked from their brand of religion and crazy mixed while they try to make us straight.

(34,093 posts)The text on the products is clear, and the product match the shelf tags - so if it was photo-shopped someone took some time to make it look realistic. The Dalton, GA Supercenter on Walnut Ave lists both items as in stock, and in aisle G12.

(16,529 posts)I'll have to go over there and have a look.
For the record, when I saw MTG's tweet, my first thought was "I'll believe it when/if I see a picture of it." I forgot Walmart has that online feature where you can find things in a particular store. I need to start using it. The Walmart I go to keeps rearranging things, and there are some things I can no longer find at all. It's hard to believe they would stop selling both Stouffer's frozen mac & cheese AND Gorton's frozen fish filets and fishsticks, but I'll be damned if I can find any of those items!
Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)I know generally where most things are - but I've shopped for a number of things recently for which I douldn't find a themed location. Citric acid (my most recent adventure) is with canning supplies (logical), which weren't located with the other food preservations in the food aisles.
I also generally like to shop at places other than Walmart - but there have been a few times recently I've defaulted to Walmart because I was in a hurry and knew I could easily find the item using their handy-dandy guide.

(3,631 posts)of how long aisle 12 is? I've been in some stores where they have what appears to be a long aisle but they have a passage in the middle and the one aisle becomes 2.
If 12 ends at the pharmacy and that is where any and all sex related stuff is and at the other end of the store are toys I really don't see a problem. I doubt that they are sold side by side.
Thanks for your research on the store.
Ms. Toad
(34,093 posts)People in that thread suggested it looked like it was photoshopped. At one point I did digital photo retouching - including some that went beyond standard retouching. I see no evidence it was photoshopped - and I generally know what to look for based on my experience in creating photos which most people could not tell had been altered.
There was also a suggestion that the items were on a clearance rack. I zoomed in on the shelf tags (which matched the items shelved above each tag and did not have any clearance markings/deeply discounted pricing).
So I decided to check to see if it was even possible that they were sold next to each. I'd recently been looking for a hard-to-locate item in a Walmart store and discovered that most stores include the aisle location (who knew that Walmart was the only local store selling citric acid). So I pulled up children's toothbrushes - all housed in aisle G12 (I randomly checked several - just to make sure there wasn't a clearance location + a different regular location where most of them were stocked). Then I pulled up one of the vibrators shown on the shelf - same aisle.
Is it possible both that the photo was photoshopped (showing them adjacent each other) AND that the aisle is really long? I suppose. Not being near that particular store I can't rule it out. But that's a stretch. The two part aisle code indicates a specific location in a specific aisle - sort of like city blocks - with the passages you mention being the cross-streets (where numbering or lettering changes - so 12G might become 12H, or 11G, for example) So they wouldn't have been at opposite ends of the store, although they might have been at opposite ends of the block, so to speak. In my experience, the "blocks" are relatively short in the Walmart pharmacy area (often the pharmacy juts out into the store, shortening the blocks which run into the pharmacy).
I don't see a problem, regardless of where they are shelved. In general, it isn't kids buying kids' toothbrushes - it's the parents. By the time the kids are old enough to buy toothbrushes, they are probably old enough to find out about vibrators on their own.
I don't like seeing our side morph into people for whom facts are of secondary importance. I want us to get our facts straight - and then challenge them on policy from a basis in reality.
