Steve Schmidt: GOP must muzzle Rush Limbaugh

By KEVIN CIRILLI | 11/7/12 12:50 AM EST Politico
Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said early Wednesday morning on MSNBC that it’s time for Republican leaders to stand up to “extreme statements” and “nonsense” coming from within the GOP, including Rush Limbaugh.

“Now, people calling for revolution and these extreme statements — when I talk about a civil war in the Republican Party, what I mean is, it’s time for Republican elected leaders to stand up and to repudiate this nonsense, and to repudiate it directly,” Schmidt said.

He continued: “There has been a culture of fear and intimidation, that you are not a real conservative if you won’t, you know, if you won’t, you know, stand — if you stand up to these extreme statements, whether it’s Rush Limbaugh calling that young lady a slut, or a hundred other examples over the last four years.”
Schmidt was referring to Sandra Fluke, who Limbaugh called a slut in February on his radio program after she testified on Capital Hill about contraception.

The GOP is now nothing more than a collection of single issue turds flying in loose formation. The portly drug addict is one of the few things holding their pathetic party together.

to stand up to Rush and the other crazies, which suggests to me that even he feels a bit nervous about doing so.

What has he got left now? Just to stir up the rightwinger base with continual vitriol may just start... (maybe wishful thinking here) ... just start to soak the thick skulls he's been hammering for so long that they are just plain wrong. The american people have undeniably spoken against this kind of hateful rhetoric tonight.

Here is Schmidt (and the GOP's) problem about all that...

Limbaugh became a force in the early 90s. And a disgusting one at that. Mr. Schmidt, with all due respect (meaning zero), don't try to tell me that this shit happened overnight. I'm older and have more insurance. And you're a liar.

I still remember the day I was introduced to Rush (inadvertently; it was on a co-worker's radio). He made me pause then; he makes me utterly sick now. He has always been the ugliest of uglies.

What scares me the most is that many people do not understand that he is NOT new. He's older than freaking dirt, as politics go, but he's made himself into some sort of Teflon brand. Which I will work until my dying day to stop.

He's an asshole.

And I rarely say that about Republicans. But he seems sane. Someone you could work with and make a deal with....if there was more than .01 percent of them.

has been changed for the better from his exposure to Rachel Maddow. She has welcomed him on her show and made him a regular contributor. She has challenged his party's ideas in an intellectual way and he has to have seen the myriad examples of the right wing craziness and extremism while sitting in her green room waiting to come on.

he and Chris Christi are both right on the verge of switching parties, as we become the predominant mainstream party in the US, it would not be surprising if our party develops a conservative wing composed of what used to be non-insane Republicans, and I would welcome them in. Crist in Florida and Huntsman are others who are potential converts. Since the RWNJ's seem to be doubling down on Crazy even in the face of their disaster, we need to take advantage of this opportunity to bring as many of them over as possible.

Rush Limbaugh is actually a secret Democrat mole, he's under "deep cover" and has been tasked with utterly sabotaging the GOP, please, please do not interfere with his secret mission!
