(3,684 posts)I think even though I've been a member here since 2004, this is my 1000th post.
How cool is that.
I joined here because of what happened in 2000, and what was starting to happen in 2004.
And look at us now. We look fabulous.

(1,309 posts)Do not get me wrong but I am very upset Ohio was a state gerrymandered by republicans who would not support Barrack Obama before the election and now still have no compunction to do so. I worked many many many days and hours for Obama and many many for Sherrod Brown but we never affected the unrepresentative nature of our delegation to the House of Representatives from Ohio, We had the chance to do this by supporting Issue 2. the independent redistricting commission but it failed because democrats did not get the message out as to what it was and where we stood, and republicans spent their money lying about it and confusing voters. This has dealt a blow to Obama when it comes to working with the House of Representatives. They were not accountable to us in Ohio before and they still are not. So lets get busy changing this. All people who want Obama to succeed should help us in what ways they can as we continue this important battle here in Ohio. We will continue this effort to get rid of Ohio gerrymandering. Let us hope that in our efforts President Obama's organizers, neighborhood team leaders, and democrats and independents recognize the need to pass this commission. People not Politicians!!!
I love Obama but the help he neds is being destroyed by gerrymandering here in Ohio. Lets stop this once and for all.

(141 posts)...in our beloved home state. We know the score, whats' at stake. Our good work does not stop here, We know this. So buck up, my friend!, our President now has the capital to spend, the mandate from the people, he has had to bide his time, avoiding fights to secure a second term. The Boehnerbots will make it easier for We the People, as their extreme stance is now exposed as just that. They may hold the majority, however they do not hold sway. They know this. They have now been castrated, and are imploding as We speak. If they wish to have a snowballs' chance in hell to be even remotely relevant in the coming decades, they'll fall in line. Our glass is half full, my friend, keep the faith, do not despair, and hold the line. Go Buckeyes!

(8,554 posts)I was watching the progress of your Issue 2 very closely and I'm also really disappointed that it has failed.
The only answer to it is that you simply must get out, go trek into the country and the red suburbs, and just talk with people, find the like-minds that already live surrounded by conservatives, and then do the hard work of developing relationships with folks that you'd think would just as soon spit on you as to look at ya and seek common ground with them. In the Ohio campaign that the rethugs just waged against both Sen. Brown and President Obama, I think that they were banking on Ohioans being much dumber than they actually are, staging an insulting assault to convince the state to vote against their own best interests. And that is what you have to build on in all of those red townships and counties, stress what really matters in day-to-day lives and what can actually be done to make things better for all. Take the battle to the fields, so to speak.
Anyway, a big pat on the back to you for at least trying hard to get the state map reconfigured. I was born and raised in Ohio and I've watched from afar over the past few decades, as the snakes-in-the-grass have gradually chopped counties up to their own best advantage. It is one hell of an outrage!

(3,622 posts)It was a tough night in Warren County where I live. The turn out was extremely high in the county. I was a polling judge in the county and as usual Warren County went red (69% Romney; 29% Obama) which historically is what the county does as far as republicans vs. Democrats (70/30 split). Northern Ohio (Toledo, Cleveland, Akron/Canton), Montgomery County (Dayton) and Hamilton County (Cincinnati) came through.
There were too many provisional votes in Hamilton County (~20,000) and the republicans pulled all the stops out to win the state for Romney to the point, IMO, of malfeasance from the beginning, but in the end President Obama won the state.
