I remember going on a hike up near Fairbanks a few years ago, and as we were scrambling across this outcropping of rocks, we kept hearing the marmots whistling, sounding just like a human. Of course, just as soon as I would being my camera up to get a shot, they'd dive back down under the rocks.

(22,271 posts)A.k.a., a marmot varmint. Had to retrieve a frying pan from them one time. We had had an early breakfast of fried eggs, went fishing without cleaning the pan, and when we got back the pan was gone. They had drug it probably 20 feet onto some rocks where they had picked it clean.
