What Jewish Voters Should Know About the Source of Those 'Support Israel? Fire Obama' Yard Signs

From Talk To Action:

http://www.talk2action.org/story/2012/11/5/113049/969

It would be logical to assume the "Support Israel? Fire Obama" yard signs (graphic at right) come from an organization focused on Israel as an issue. They are not. The signs are from the nonprofit American Majority, a Tea Party outfit with ties to the Koch brothers. American Majority has also received substantial funding (over one million dollars in 2010) from a foundation that is headed by a member of the secretive Catholic prelature Opus Dei and shares the address of the National Organization of Marriage (NOM).

The focus of this national Tea Party group is radical free marketers and culture warriors - anti-union, anti-regulatory, anti-environmental, anti-feminist, anti-reproductive rights, and the list goes on. But it's not about Israel.

-snip-

The American Majority Inc.'s purpose, as listed on its IRS 990 tax forms is to "create a national training institute dedicated to identifying, training, and mentoring political leaders." It is affiliated with the Valley Forge Alliance in Aledo, Texas, also formerly called the John Hancock Committee for the States and the American Liberty Alliance, and the Sam Adams Alliance. The organizations have worked closely with Glenn Beck's 912 organizations to build Tea Party networks.

In 2010 alone, the American Majority received over one million dollars in funding from the Wellspring Committee, headed by Ann Corkery. Ann and her husband Neil are Catholic leaders in the fight against reproductive rights and marriage equality. Both the National Organization of Marriage (NOM) and the Institute for Marriage and Public Policy are registered under Neil's name at the same Manassas, Virginia address as the Wellspring Committee. Ann Corkery is a self-declared member of Opus Dei.

-snip-

The bulk of the funding for American Majority is reported to be from the Sam Adams Alliance, which describes itself as the "sponsor" of American Majority. The Sam Adams Alliance was founded by Eric O'Keefe, a former executive director of the Libertarian Party who worked for David Koch's Citizens for a Sound Economy and with Howard Rich's Americans for Limited Government. According to both the Center for Media and Democracy and Media Transparency, Sam Adams Alliance also provides funding to the Franklin Center and is at the hub of a network of Koch and Bradley Foundation-funded entities behind the growth of the Tea Party.

If you get evangelicals into a private conversation, BTW, they'll say that they believe all Jews will burn in hell if they don't convert.

Those are some real allies there!

And not every Jewish American voter prioritizes Israel over the USA. I live here; I vote Democratic. A Democratic president benefits the entire world, IMHO.

some are splitting tickets...voting for Democrats down ballot but there's no way they will vote for Obama. I see it as a combination of racism...yes Jews can be very racist (especially those who were part of the "white flight" of the 60s and 70s) and those who put Israel above all other issues (and almost all support Likud). These are shitstains who listen to Michael Weiner and read Pam Geller and others that just amp up and amplify the hate.

Fortunately these are a minority of people I've encountered...but they're a loud and wealth minority that hopefully will go down to a big defeat tomorrow.

I'm hopeful that the President will draw a minimum of 75% of the Jewish vote tomorrow. I'm pointing out a segment of American Jews who have been working hard to amp up racism and hate within the Jewish community. The OP explains whose behind some of these groups but they are very visible within Jewish communities. Sheldon Adelson is one of the more prominent American Jews to emerge this year...deep pockets and a strong intent to spread hate and fear within the Jewish community and using Israel as a political tool for his own ends....

will be misguided a-holes. For all the "white flight" racists of the 60s, a hell of a lot of civil rights activists were Jews. You may have heard of a couple of them.

...Jewish friends and neighbors who worked with Dr. Martin Luther King for eliminating red-lining and breaking down the barriers to housing discrimination in Chicago in the 60s. I'm very familiar with the many of my "lansmen" who worked with the Civil Rights movement and even lost their lives in the civil rights struggles of the 60s. These are my brothers and sisters and as I pointed out earlier this represents a majority of American Jews.

Yes, there's a segment in every group but unfortunately this group has created a perception I see more and more these days...that they speak for American Jews or that they are representative of some social or political shift within the Jewish community to the right. I mention "white flight" as this is a common bond of the people who I've encountered who spew the same hatred of blacks that I hear out of a Weiner or Levin or other Jewish right wing hagbag. It was a latent racism that has somehow become acceptable and that's what I find disturbing...
