This is not right!

The Boy Scouts released their 'perversion files' with information they kept secret about people in charge who were accused of lewd acts. They ranged from anything to minor offenses to the worst possible.

There is an 85 year old man in my area who is being interviewed because his name is on the list. He says he is devastated by the accusation.

I am NOT saying he is innocent. However, the Boy Scouts have hurt an untold amount of people. Those who were molesting kids were allowed to escape punishment and in some cases kept in the organization. The damage done is incalculable.

Then there are those who were accused that may be innocent. Because the people in charge kept this secret, some people who were wrongly accused now find themselves with questions about their character and no recourse.

IMHO child molesters should be put under the jail. However, I also don't believe accusations without some proof. I believe the kids have to be taken seriously and given support. Then the crimes should be thoroughly investigated before those accused find themselves in a maelstrom. At times, there may be enough evidence to arrest someone immediately.

The Boy Scouts' hierarchy should be cleaned out. A thorough investigation of their safeguards should be done. They say there are measures in place to prevent pedophiles from becoming part of their group. Why should we believe them now?

I had a friend in Chicago who was molested while in the Boy Scouts.
As a "way of passage", the older scouts raped the younger scouts
(by campfire no less, but in tents). He recounted to me the degradation
he felt as the older scouts forced the younger scouts into anal sex.

To this day he recounts the ordeal to me with shame, humiliation, and anger.

He survived. He's a great guy. Works hard. Devoted to his Christianity today.
Has forgiven his transgressors, but still has nightmares about it.
