Everywhere I look, I see Republicans being dirty.

They don't seem to know how to get behind positive messages.

The tainted medication that caused so many people to get sick or even die from fungal meningitis...

The anti-Asian message against Betty Sutton in Ohio...

Lying about sending Jeep's jobs to China when it is so obviously wrong...

I could go on, but I think you get my drift.

Don't they know how to be anything else?

The scientifically literate, women, minorities, aging, and civil libertarians see nothing there. So it's the plutocrats and their wannabees, and the people they can hoodwink and scare that will get their votes.

And if they don't pull some dirty shit, they have no chance. As an Orwellian, I fear their power, because if they gain control they will institutionalize it. Their lies will become official "truths."

...and it's death throes are not pretty. The once-time party of Lincoln is now the party of batshit crazy. There are no more moderates or social liberals in the republican party, they've all been purged. The GOP has prostituted it's ideology for the knuckle-dragger and teabagger vote and now finds it impossible to assume a coherent, non-extreme position.

The republican party is officially certifiable and defies all logic. All they have now is anger.

Sat Nov 3, 2012, 01:38 PM

when logic breaks down and they still feel uneasy and frightened, the limbic system takes over and then they try to find quasi-logical support for their illogical fears.

People have many ways to try not to feel afraid. One is the acquisition of stuff, like money and houses and land. Another is to create scapegoats and bond with others against them. Another is to accrue power and hang onto it for dear life.

But all these things break down eventually, because none of them really stop fear. Only surrender to reality and choosing to trust and accept that we will all die in the end, and the sense that the whole, and not only the individual, is important and its survival is a part of our own, can help. People ask all the time why Japan was so able to work together to recover from Fukushima. It's this sense that allows those things to happen. Rugged individualism has its price.

So imo the GOP, as a fear based group, is trying desperately to keep power and stuff by doing what seems natural to them, create fear and insecurity and scapegoats.

It can only work as long as we ourselves feel that way. Sadly, a lot of Americans do.

But not President Obama.

Vote.

The truly remarkable thing about the American Experiment is the repeated (and I think noble and wonderful) attempt to balance individualism and social justice and cooperation. It's damned hard, and if we'd let ourselves we could be really good at it.

The European DSM uses "Histrionic" I think but the idea is that emotions are extremely labile and overwhelming. The details can vary wildly from seductive to rageful but the idea is that people will do damn near anything to try to feel calm and secure, and nothing really helps.

Borderline Personality Disorder is sort of similar but even more pervasive and difficult.

Naturaly they used to say it was the womenfolk.

They were spouting the typical shit that if Obama wins, the country is finished within a year. Typical rightwing scare tactic horseshit. I normally don't interrupt other people's conversations, but I saw a young person that had to listen to those assholes turning red but saying nothing. I was also pissed at the lies that were being spouted. A couple stood near by with their backs turned to the assholes. One said an obvious lie and I could not fucking stand another second of their shit, I told the asshole that said the last statement that he was full of shit and stated a couple of facts to back up my statement. The motherfucker tried to argue, but I cut him off and stated several more pieces of information that cut his legs out from under him, the asshole finally admitted that he didn't know whether what he said was true and would have to look up information on the web. I was pissed and red as hell at that point and was ready to fight if one of them twitched, I walked away to calm down. When I came back to finish my business, I noticed the couple and the young person, both looked a lot happier and the assholes were silent. I completed my business, had the kid say goodbye and thanks to me and I left.

and the fact that they are willing to lie, cheat, steal to win...and the number of people that support that is sickening.

I think that politics has simply become a blood sport. Red vs. Blue and for the most part, the Red side is willing to support anything that it takes to win.

Many have forgotten that the the "spoils" ARE us. WE go to the victors. Our jobs, our healthcare, our financial resources, our ecological resources, our children, our significant others, our mothers, our fathers....and giving these precious things to cretins who do not have any intention of treasuring them is barbarism. Just to put a win in the column.

In this election, it is not hyperbole to say that lives are at stake. I don't think that many on the Red side really believe that. There is evil in store for all of us if RR gets in the WH. And the sad part is, there will be no turning back.

They embrace policies that will kill the planet, oppress individual freedom, and exploit the weak. The philosophy is summed up as "He who dies with the most toys wins".

With all the fundamentalists and Dominionists in their party, they are in a race to use up all the resources and end the world so they can hasten the return of Christ. That is why they embrace these policies that are detrimental to humanity.
