We're all strung out right about now, or at least I am. Been making calls for Chris Murphy and will make GOTV calls to folks who haven't shown up to vote yet on Election Day. Trying to put together my ESOL lesson for class tomorrow...hard to concentrate on that and usually it's a lot fo fun to do...
Still, it's nice to be here with other DUers who are biting down their naiils and constantly checking polls...at least I feel at home with my peeps!
GOTV!

(53,339 posts)We are setting up a mobile, half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in my community that day (my birthday), to display during the Veterans Day period.
Ordinarily, I would cut my ear off to be there for the Friday Challenge, but this time I cannot. I'll be off DU for the duration of the display, except when I come home to sleep (after checking DU ). I'm pictured in the top photo on our flyer:
I will definitely check the Challenge thread when I return that night.

Is the money raised for caring for Vietnam War veterans?
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)...but what is raised goes to operation and maintenance of the AV Wall.
All of us who are involved are volunteers--we have no paid staff. Unlike the other four or five mobile scale Walls that travel around the country, with paid staff, ours became a reality because of donations from our own community and is designed to be displayed in our community.
The largest single donation to build our Wall came from a "Pennies for Soldiers" project in our local elementary, middle and high schools which contributed $20,000 of the $100,000+ cost to design and build our Wall.
The video of our experience with the display at Lancaster HS in Lancaster, California last year tells our story pretty well...

(53,339 posts)I had to go back and look to see that I show up at 5:17...7:34...8:09...and 12:04.
The "statues" in the vid are living statues created by the HS students. One student who always sat in the back of the class and never spoke up came up with the idea, and she came to be known as'Statue Mama'. The Statue Family has remained close, having their own FB group and re-creating the statues occasionally, including at a veterans' event at a local seniors' home and at one of our quarterly outreach events for homeless veterans.
