BROOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A pastor accused of beating and strangling a neighbour to fulfil a sexual fantasy was engaged to the victim's mother and had asked church members to pray for the young woman before police found her body, a friend said Friday.

Ex-convict turned pastor John D. White knew the victim, Rebekah Gay, 24, and regularly watched her 3-year-old son while she worked, Donna Houghton said.

White was in jail without bond Friday, a day after he was charged with first-degree murder in Gay's death in a rural area 85 miles (137 kilometres) northwest of Lansing, Michigan.

White told investigators he repeatedly struck Gay's head with a mallet then strangled her with a zip tie at her mobile home, according to the sheriff's office. He said he stripped her but does not remember if he carried out his fantasy of having sex with Gay's dead body.

What in the heck is wrong with our court system that they let people like that back out of jail? And the people of his congregation say that "Satan got to him". I say he was one sick b*****d that never should have seen the world without bars on the window.

Previously was convicted of stabbing and choking a 17 year old. People at the church knew this background, and still hired him. Wow, the stupid... it burns.
