And there's this:
@darrenrovell: New York Road Runners CEO Mary Wittenberg earned $500,843 in compensation and benefits in fiscal 2011.
No matter what good can come from this race, usually brought up in the form of bringing money to NYC, the NY Marathon and the Road Runners club that organizes it are going to earn a great deal of ill will from NYC residents. Many people are upset and that sentiment is building.
Bloomberg can explain and talk until he is blue in the face. People don't want it and do not believe there will be any benefit to them. Pictures of cops, EMTs, and ambulances set up to help the runners will cause even more uproar. Then there are the pics of the runners being handed water or pouring it over their heads. That will go over well. Juxtapose a picture of the devastation with runners moving down cleared streets and you have another fire starter.
They will rue the day they hold this race. It could affect how people feel about it for years to come.

(374 posts)a 501(c)(3) that gives that much money to someone? It's supposed to be a nonprofit. They get tax breaks then give disgusting amounts of money to a few rich people. It's a shame that the rich can turn something as simple as a group of people running into something so disgusting.
