Are Non-NYC and Non-New Jersey Residents Who are coming into NYC for the Marathon Selfish?

My NYC friends are very upset this race is taking place because so much police and other resources will be allocated to the race versus recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

I had another friend post on Facebook that she's upset that her hotel has no power yet and she cannot find anywhere else to stay for an affordable price. I didn't say this to her but I found her post extremely selfish and rude.

I'd say something like "Take the money you were gonna spend on yourself & send it to the Red Cross & then watch it on TV. Yake note of the wreckage & suffering".

Even if you're trained and capable of handling extreme weather conditions, you can still have the race cancelled on you. Talk to the people who ran in Green Bay, Madison, St. Louis, etc.

As a marathoner myself, I think people have more of a right to be rescued than a marathoner needs to run.

Some races give partial credit towards the next year's race, but I don't know if NY qualifies. You probably lose a night of hotel plus airfare, but that's the risk.

I was supposed to fly to NYC next week for some business and I decided to cancel it just to stay out of the way.

is totally responsible for people's perceptions of what is and isn't going on in the city. Too bad the mayor didn't except FEMA assistance before the storm.
