NYC man accused of pulling gun in gas line

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/11/02/nyc-man-accused-of-pulling-gun-in-gas-line/1676745/

New York City authorities say a motorist was arrested after he tried to cut in line at a gas station in Queens early Thursday and pointed a pistol at another motorist who complained.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says 35-year-old Sean Bailey, of Queens, was arrested on charges of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. It wasn't clear whether he had a lawyer.

Damage from the storm has forced many gas stations to close and has disrupted fuel deliveries, causing long lines at the gas stations that remained open.

If convicted, Bailey could face up to 15 years in prison.

(that's pretty much all there was to this story)

On a side note: my brother in Jersey told me that he got up at 3am yesterday morning in hopes that the line for gas would be short. He was wrong. While not miles long, it was probably a 1/2 mile long. The station ran out just as he was to pull up to the pump.

It's bad. Very bad.

Also, public schools should teach disaster preparedness to all kids. Just a half-day session to get them to think about how to plan for not having luxuries like electricity and running water for a few days following a storm or earthquake.

It's bad. Very bad.

Much of the badness is self-imposed. People who didn't fill their fuel tanks before the storm have only themselves to blame.

The emergency people know that gas is critically needed and part of the problem is that many of the stations do not have power to PUMP the gas. They have fuel in their storage tanks but lack power to get it out of the ground. They will get power back ASAP and you can know that tankers of gasoline are being trucked in as I write this.

I know this is happening because we had the exact same scenario here in Pensacola after Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The lines were long and tempers flared for a few days. Some people were jack asses and threated others in line, cut in line and they eventually had to impose limits on how much gas one customer could buy and STILL people tried to cheat. In a few days they got power back to the stations that didn't have it OR they brought in huge generators so they could pump the gas. Tanker trucks full of gasoline replenished the ones that had sold out. So help will be coming to those stations in NJ and NY that are struggling now. Hang on! Help is coming or is already there!

Saw a gas line a mile long. At the end, there were cops trying to insure the process goes smoothly. New Yorkers are very impatient - I sure am. I can see how this situation with gas lines could become very volatile.
