I'm not a republican because I don't have family values

This is true.

Family values are those that say that my family is okay...fuck the rest of the world.

Family values are those that say that my family needs a 3000 sq ft house while my neighbors are homeless.

Family values are those that say I need to spend $50k on a car when my neighbor has no shoes.

Family values are those that say my family has more than enough, but yet, we want more for ourselves and are not willing to fight for those that need a hand up so that ANOTHER family does okay too.

Personally, I think I am a community values kind of gal! My family can do with a little less house, a little less car, and a little less in the paycheck so that my neighbors can have their basic needs met.

THAT is what being an American is all about. Fuck this "I've got mine" attitude that the "family values" crowd oozes--that expression sounds so homey but is indeed an evil premise to live your life.

My family just happens to extend to all people, the "family of man", if you will.

I think wanting everyone to have affordable healthcare is a family value.

I think taking care of those less fortunate than ourselves is a family value.

I think taking care of the environment so there is something left for coming generations is a family value.

I think wanting safe, healthy food as opposed to genetically modified crops that haven't been sufficiently tested is a family value.

I think asking those of us that can pay a little more in taxes to make things better for those of us who can't make it without a little help is a family value.

I think that "family values" have been hijacked by the right and they have no legitimate claim to the term. The red states have higher abortion rates, higher divorce rates, higher rates of unwed and teenage mothers, and more people living in poverty.

It amazes me how many people buy into the GOP supporting family values when they do so much to hurt families. A case in point- fighting the minimum wage increases, blocking the jobs bill, and vowing to rollback Obamacare if they win. None of those help families, they only hurt them.

We as Dems need to take back the family values argument, both by words and by actions.

shows that there are huge numbers of uninformed people out there thanks to FAUX and RW radio. These people have no idea what the Affordable Care Act even involves. They are reacting viscerally to the word "Obama." If he's involved, it must be bad in their warped way of non-thinking.

Millions of people will vote against their own self interest on Tuesday. It's pathetic.

Yet, they love the things associated with it....but somehow are under the impression they are just "gifts and gratitude from their insurance company".

I started a thread a while back that posed a question: "Since our economy is based on consumer spending, imagine the state of our economy, but more, our society, if people could spend their earnings on the things they want; rather than, then things that they need."

Economists indicate that the median household spends about 30-40% of its income on housing and another 10-15% on food ... Picture a government that provided a minimum-level of housing and food for every American; that 40-55% of household income would go directly into consumer spending for retail goods.

Family values are those that say I start wars for profit but don't pay taxes to provide the gear to those who will do the killing and dying.

Family values are those that say I am exempt from serving in the armed forces.

Family values are those that say I do not have to support the injured when they come home.

Why can't we have love without borders? Instead of this insulated hate filled corporation of man where your skin tone, financial health or family tree gives you the right of way to run the world and ruin the world at the same time. This which gives you the clout to destroy the livelihood of many for the profit of a few. Where it allows you the hypocrisy to be judge and jury while breaking laws yourself. Where it gives you the ability to sell out the schools, the national parks, the waterways--even the roads for profit and short changing generations to come. Heed the greed, It will be the downfall of us all.

"A vote for <insert republican candidate's name here> is a vote for family values." Oh, and I'm soooo sick of hearing, "<insert republican candidate's name here> is standing up for <insert state's name here> values." I didn't realize I clashed with my state's values. Should I be ashamed or proud? I'm confused.

It's early and I'm a little drowsy.
