I was asking my friends at the Obama event in Boulder this evening and I was the only one among the group who voted in favor of legalization. Sigh.

It is so stupid that you have to get a medically necessary card. If I liked weed I could get one (my back hurts! I have cramps! Migraines!) but so stupid that they don't use it to fund schools. The taxes raised would fund schools, so you can guess who is voting against it!

Does the initiative you're voting on have a limit on how much marijuana you can have in your blood? What is the limit? Here in Washington State they are trying to implement a 5 nanogram blood limit on drivers. The medical marijuana patients here are not happy about that and are not supporting the initiative. Also they are putting a 25% tax on every step of the process; growing, processing, distributing. Some are saying this will increase the price so much that patients especially low income patients will just go back to buying it on the black market instead. Are you happy with the legislation that you are voting on?

I've seen many DUers praising the law and how it is written compared to Oregon and Washington laws. I'm not up to speed as much as I should be however.

My sense from DU is that those who are opposed to it already have a card and fear a massive federal crackdown that will end it all or are concerned the marijuana will cost them more. All are valid concerns but it's time to ride the wave and get at least one state in the legalization column. It's long overdue.

The good folks at Budweiser and Phillip Morris want discord among those who in broad strokes have the same goals. They want people using their drugs.

I can't support it if it's going to hurt the medical marijuana patients. I will wait until a better initiative comes along. I think Colorado is further along in this process of perfecting the initiative than we are here in Washington State. If it is the right legislation then it would be fantastic if it passes.

But at some point people who favor legalization have to realize there will never be universal agreement on how a law is written. If its not one thing, it will be something else. And on and on.

We've seen these state questions go up in smoke (pun intended) time and time again and often it is because those on the same side differ on how the laws should be written. It becomes a war over minutiae.

And again, that's what the pushers of legal drugs want. Discord and confusion.

While I agree that some of these laws have been written poorly I think the concerns I mentioned above are also valid.

We are here in WA. We voted for the bill because we already lost our one and only medical place and DEA flies over our mountains every year looking for pot.

If the states don't legalize it DEA won't back off the medical places too.

But I also support those who feel it would hurt patients and vote no. I don't want to see patients put in jail for driving when they took medicine hours or even days before they took the blood test.

It wears off by next day or even 5 hours later. Unless you drive unsafe who is going to be stopping you to check?

The only way I can see it is if someone has to go out after, no choice.

My husband is retired and smokes at home, if we need to go somewhere I drive.

The way I look at it, it is the same as taking other pills for pain or whatever that say on bottle don't drive...

You will find no bigger supporter of this,I ain't looking to argue.
