Pascual Perez, the Expos and Braves pitcher, has died (apparently murdered)

This guy had a nasty breaking ball that could make you shit in your pants.

The former pitcher Pascual Perez, who had a troubled career, was killed at his home in the Dominican Republic in an apparent robbery, the police said Thursday. He was 55.

Perez, who last played in the majors for the Yankees in 1991, was found with a severe head wound in a town west of Santo Domingo, and there was evidence at the scene to suggest that whoever killed him had been searching for money, said Joel Valdemiro, a prosecutor who is involved in the investigation.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Perez was much loved by Braves fans. He earned the nickname "I-285" and much good-natured ribbing when he was once late for a start because he got lost on the infamous interstate that circles Atlanta.

RIP, Pascual. We miss you, buddy.

Not only did he drive around Atlanta's perimeter and missed his start, he also had forgotten his wallet and had to bum a few bucks from a service station owner to make it to the ballpark.

Perez was a great pitcher, and was involved in the best baseball brawl I've ever seen, against the Padres.
