Omaha teen shot, killed 'like she was nobody,' mom says

Many of you know I'm a Metro Conference basketball regular. I know all the coaches and most players. I saw this young girl play ball. She had the smarts to be anything she wanted to be in life. I have no idea why somebody ended her future with gunfire.

Eriana Carr was one of those students who was destined to be somebody.

“As soon as you met her, you instantly felt a connection,” Benson High Principal Anita Harkins-Baldwin said Wednesday. “She was a fabulous student.”

Carr, a popular 16-year-old cheerleader, basketball player and honors student, was gunned down Tuesday night outside her home at 3505 Redick Ave.

She and her cousin Nakia Johnson, 20, had taken a walk and were about to open the family's front gate to go inside when the assailants — inside a car parked across the street — rolled down a window and opened fire.

Just a terrible waste and a hideous tragedy. I hate these kinds of stories but must kick and rec for everyone to honor this poor girl, trying to make a better life in the squalor....

a carry permit and go out gun shopping.

Then again, it could have been a perfectly legal gun owner having a bad hair day.

Either way, somethings messed up.

I see these kinds of killings in much the same way that I see the killings and maiming of students in the Middle East.

They are done to discourage learning.

14. Heartbreaking. Unusual in Omaha, a frequent tragedy in too many cities.

Pastor Ovella Andreas in Detroit started CODE 22, a movement to stop the seemingly unending and absolutely needless violence by making the 22nd day of each month an official No Violence Day. Detroit and seven other Michigan cities have signed on. The hope is to make the 22nd the first, then spread it to all days.

I am most sorry for the loss of Ms. Carr. Our world has lost infinitely.

understand; but just know it was probably a disgruntled male. I know, but most murders are committed by men, so sue me!
