Will you please help a starving liberal in Nebraska? (by DUer Nancy Meyer)

Last edited Thu Nov 1, 2012, 08:25 PM - Edit history (1)

Nancy is a DUer and a friend of mine. I posted her Daily Kos story from today here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021688264

Sorry I confused a few people.

Thanks to those that are helping Bob.

Vote Vets came up with help for Bob today too: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021687913

OS

Obama, check. Alan Grayson in FL, check. Elizabeth Warren in MA, of course. Sherrod Brown in OH, got it. Tammy Baldwin in WI, check. And there are many, many more candidates worthy of our support this year.

But here's the thing: Here in Nebraska we are STARVED for decent candidates. We have so few Democrats, and so few opportunities to feel encouraged as liberals.

Luckily, when US Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) decided to retire, a former Navy seal, NE state governor and US senator decided to run in his place. His name is Bob Kerrey and if he gets in, Nebraskans get to retain our one and only Democratic voice in congress. So he's pretty important to us. And he has a good chance, because not only is he well known and liked in Nebraska by Republicans and Democrats alike, he has also recently narrowed the gap between him and his tea party backed opponent down to the margin of error. Kerrey's race is now winnable!!

Don't just take my word for what a good candidate Kerrey is. Many good people have endorsed Kerrey, including Al Franken. Who could argue with Al Franken?

So I'm doing something I normally would never do. I'm sending you a link to a bad photo of me, my lovely husband, and Governor Kerrey. It's not a bad photo of them, just me. Yup, that's right, I'm sacrificing my vanity for the cause. If you know me very well, you know I wouldn't do this if I weren't desperate.

All I ask in return is that you throw $5 at Kerrey's campaign. That's all. Of course if you send more, that's great. But really, just $5 will do. Please? Because it means so much to me to have a Democrat in congress.

Please, won't you spend just $5 to feed a starving liberal Nebraskan?

Now, go vote for a Democrat. Because there are starving liberals in Nebraska!

Gave a few bucks more than the minimum.

I always liked Bob Kerrey. I bet he is going to work well with Elizabeth Warren, the new senator we in Massachusetts are sending to Washington.

I'm not a very active DUer. I have an account here but just forget, so I'm glad he does this.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who sent Bob Kerrey money based on my post. It is so important that we don't lose the senate seat to a Republican, because these seats tend to be held for a very long time. When one of our state's congressmen started planning to retire his seat, the Republican machine shipped in a real loser, Jeff Fortenberry, from Louisiana, and now we are stuck with him. They like to call Kerrey a carpetbagger, but somehow it never came up when Fortenberry ran, even though, unlike Kerrey, Fortenberry had never lived in Nebraska at all.

It is ludicrous that a former NE Senator and NE governor is having any trouble at all against the likes of Deb Fischer, but that just shows how much money the Republicans have to throw at such races.

I've donated to out of state races and called for them too, so I'm especially gratified when I hear DUers from out of state pay attention to us tiny little blue dots out here on the prairie. Thank you thank you thank you. It means a lot to know you all haven't forgotten your brothers and sisters here in a state so red it could be easily left for dead.

I don't live in NE but I've had my eye on Bob Kerry for a while and gave to his campaign last week. I just feel this Senate race could go his way. I am hoping the Chuck Hagel endorsement gives his campaign some new momentum.

I also gave to Jon Tester. I love to see Democrats elected in Red states!

...but five days out, more money is not what the campaign needs, nor is it something they can process and utilize. If you can offer volunteer time, that can help. Money can't/

Every candidate or PAC is asking for last minute $. Many are offering 2 or 3 to 1 matching. From Dick Durbin this morning as an example.
