General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI had occasion to be in I-95 for about 20 miles today. LOTS of line crew truck convoys.
North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland are still with a few power outages, but for the most part, things are approaching normal. So today I saw convoys of bucket trucks from various places heading north, caution lights flashing, moving at the speed limit.
People were passing the convoys and, even at highway speed, were waving, honking, flashing thumbs up.
It made me feel good.

(4,220 posts)We need those trucks and people there right away, we need that General Honore and the National Guard arriving in NOLA moment to reassure people. Those pictures of a hundred or more people on line for gas in NJ today ON FOOT are not good. This can turn around on us in an instant. Power and gas will not be back quickly but perception is everything and tomorrow will be key.
We need those trucks up there and we need pictures of those trucks there. It is about to get away from us. We need to go to the next step... if only by the perception of the people on the ground. Some footage of people fighting over fuel or food can be deadly everyone concerned.
Katrina flashbacks, me too!!!

(60,010 posts)right after a hurricane here in Ala., when I crossed a freeway overpass, was seeing the southbound lanes filled with Power Company trucks from all over.
Found out later that the crews from various states had more less gathered at "safe" areas bordering the state, and then came on in the second the worst of the storm had passed.
I will confess, I had a tearful reaction.
