Interesting timing of this...VERY interesting:
"The CSG is the one group that's supposed to know what resources every agency has. They know of multiple options and have the ability to coordinate counterterrorism assets across all the agencies," a high-ranking government official told CBS News. "They were not allowed to do their job. They were not called upon."
Information shared with CBS News from top counterterrorism sources in the government and military reveal keen frustration over the U.S. response on Sept. 11, the night ambassador Chris Stevens and 3 other Americans were killed in a coordinated attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57544026/sources-key-task-force-not-convened-during-benghazi-consulate-attack
Now, if the President and security personnel didn't even goddamned know if this was a coordinated terrorist attack, or a reaction to that stupid video, why would they convene the CSG until or unless they had this information and were certain about what they were dealing with?
Note the article says that DURING the attack. How the FUCK would Obama or anyone for that matter know who they were dealing with DURING the attack? They didn't. They didn't know if it was a coordinated terrorist attack or a reaction to the video. So why the hell would they have convened this CSG group?
Is it just me or is are GOP, Tealiban, and their respective media mouthpieces reaching for straws here as a last-ditch effort to keep Obama from winning the election - manufacturing smear jobs and seemingly senseless hit-pieces like this?
Am I missing something here?

(27,461 posts)for example the report about the CIA briefing which supported their statements about a spontaneous attack. The favorable reports are not necessarily "covering for" the administration, and the negative ones aren't necessarily "hit pieces". They are just reporting.

(7,290 posts)The State Department now says it never believed the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was a film protest gone awry .... The State Department's extraordinary break with other administration offices came in a department briefing Tuesday, where officials said "others" in the executive branch concluded initially that the protest was based, like others in the Middle East, on a film that ridiculed the Prophet Muhammad. That was never the department's conclusion, a senior official told reporters.

There is no proof whatsoever to your assertion that this was started by a film.

(9,774 posts)And I saw a report (have to find it) that the CIA still feels the video started the protesting. People other than the militant group were protesting. It's still not clear.

(7,290 posts)To me, there is a huge difference between a spontaneous reaction and a planned attack, but YMMV.

Even if the embassy/CIA attackers and organizers of the movie riots are two completely different groups, the timing still suggests some kind of collusion....

(7,290 posts)On Thursday, intelligence officials said they had early information that the attackers had ties to al-Qaida-linked groups, but did not make it public immediately because it was based on classified intelligence. And they said the early public comments about the attack and its genesis were cautious and limited, as they routinely are in such incidents.
They added that while intelligence officials indicated early on that extremists were involved in the assault, only later were officials able to confirm that the attack was not generated by a protest over the film.

(27,461 posts)The existence of the August 6 PDB was first revealed by CBS News' David Martin on May 15, 2002. But Martin's report only referred to the PDB in one sentence that noted the PDB had warned that an attack by bin Laden could involve hijacking U.S. aircraft. CBS did not report the title of the briefing or any other material it contained. A media furor erupted after the White House acknowledged Bush had received this PDB. The day after the CBS News report, The New York Times carried a front-page story with a headline declaring, "Bush Was Warned Bin Laden Wanted To Hijack Planes."

(23,796 posts)Among the new disclosures is that the CIA station chief in Tripoli sent an emergency security force, with about a half-dozen agency operatives as well as two U.S. military personnel, to Benghazi aboard a hastily chartered aircraft while the attack was underway.
The CIA team attempted to organize an effort to make its way to a hospital where U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens had been taken and was thought to be still alive. But the team was held up by Libyan officials at the airport and scrapped the plan to reach Stevens after learning that the security situation at the hospital was uncertain.
The only difference between Benghazi Trutherism and 9/11 Truth is that BT has a major news network and leaders of the opposition party pumping it up.

(2,679 posts)I haven't watched a nightly news program on regular broadcast tv since cable news started, about 1982. I do still read the newspaper, either online or in print. But I get most of my news online or cable news either msnbc, cnn or my local cable channel.
And this whole Libya stuff is not as important as other things right this moment. I am not saying it does not matter because it does matter. Its just right now other things matter more. The events in Libya were tragic especially for those who died and their family and friends. But we can't change that.
The repugs are politicizing this which makes it even more tragic.
