On Sunday, Angela Lansbury was the guest of honor at The Players' Pipe Night honoring Audra McDonald. Of course, the topic of the election came up.
"There is one thing I would like to say about that," said the normally even-tempered 87-year-old, becoming indignant. "It has been erroneously reported that I am a Republican! I am not a Republican."
While I could find no mainstream outlets calling her a GOPer, this this Answers.com page does come up first when you Google "Angela Lansbury Republican."
"It's all over the Internet and It's bizarre," continued Lansbury, best remembered as Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote. "I'm a huge Obama fan. I've already voted for him by absentee ballot. I am Democrat from the ground up."

(3,502 posts)Not that Jessica Fletcher is necessarily a Republican, but she was very popular with the conservative senior set. Angela Lansbury is real a theater gal. Not a lot of GOPers in the circles in which she travels.

(7,515 posts)pictures of her when she was young? She was absolutely gorgeous and I think she was still a very attractive woman in Her "Murder, She Wrote" days. I watch the reruns when I can't stand MSNBC any longer.

(105 posts)...and still going strong..and still feisty, obviously, at 87 ! The first movie I saw her in as a kid was The Picture of Dorian Gray, which scared the life out of me. You are right Sekhmet, she was an absolute stunner back then.

(56,177 posts)Problem was, shortly after the movie came out Kennedy was assasinated and the movie cut too close to home at that point.

(3,056 posts)And I was thinking the same thing...between her role in "Manchurian" and as Kay Thorndyke in "State of the Union", I can see where the *ahem* low information political operative would confuse the role with the actress and think she was a heartless rethug!

Picture of Dorian Grey was a great flick & good role for her.

I first saw it again in 1988 at an art house, and I had forgotten that Angela Lansbury played the scheming mother. By that time, the younger people in the audience knew her only from "Murder She Wrote," and when she appeared on the screen, someone from the audience called out, "Jessica!"

It was her favorite show way back then, and I remember her watching it when I was very young.
I am happy to hear that she already voted.

(20,317 posts)'I never liked her'. It's so predictable and silly.
I don't care if she's a Republican or a Democrat or an Anarchist, personally. If I enjoy an entertainer's work, I could not care less about their politics.
