So it has begun. What you claim was once the future of your movement you now treat like dirt because *gasp* Gov. Christie has the AUDACITY to reach out to the Federal Government and Democrat President Barack Obama to help clean up his state New Jersey.
I've seen the posts made on your sites of hate like Free Republic and honestly it's pretty disgusting.
Here's a little clue about Mother Nature - she doesn't knock on doors first to check if the people living there are progressive or conservative. She doesn't track who people voted for and she has no preference for Red States or Blue States. When she hits, she can hit hard and she wrecks alot of havoc on those in her path. Whether it's a Superstorm attacking the east or an earthquake hitting the west coast or a tornado raging thru the midwest - we need to have a system in plan to help recovery for those who are affected by these acts of Mother Nature.
And here's something else - it's not exactly like we progressives are suddenly big Chris Christie fans. We're just smart enough to recognize that partisan politics have no business when our country is facing a crisis. I am not from New Jersey nor was my state impacted as badly as our neighbor to the NE was. But I have friends and family in New Jersey like many of you might have. Heck some of you might even live in New Jersey. Gov Christie is simply doing what he was elected to do - protect & serve the people of New Jersey. All of them, even the ones that didn't vote for him or even forgot to vote.
Chris Christie did all he could to plan for this storm, which btw was so unique that most weather forecasters had no real model to plan how this storm would react. But in the end New Jersey needs more than one person to help rebuild - it needs a country. It needs a President and it needs everyday folks. Last Monday it was New Jersey, last year it was Joplin Missouri, it's also been New Orleans, San Francisco, the state of Florida even the Midwest this past summer (drought).
There is a common quote that ha been used throughout the ages - Patrick Henry was famous for using it in his last speech and a similar sentiment can be found in the bible (Mark 3:25) - that quote is this:
United We Stand, Divided We Fall
If we are to be the United States then we need to learn to put partisan politics aside when our country is in great need. I know after 9/11, we here at DU stopped bickering about Bush and united with the country as we dealt with the aftermath of this act of terrorism. It's important that we do that anytime we face these great crisis's.
In the end remember this, no one is asking you to vote for Obama. Just learn some civilities when things like this happen. There is not one place in this great country that is free of the wrath of Mother Nature. One day it could be your hometown and even if it's in the most conservative part of our country just know that the country would be there for your recovery.

(13,877 posts)Kind of like God and Noah...for the RWCFs.
I think God said probably sometime, United States, build me a FEMA so that when Mother needs to clean up the place, from time to time, take care of Everyone and Every Being...even those who have defiled their Earth and did not Listen or Believe My Voice. Yes, everyone.

(14,040 posts)when Jack Shephard stands up and says, "But if we can't live together, we're going to die alone." The baggers can laugh and chant, "USA, USA, USA" when someone at a Romney rally tries bringing attention to climate science (or silence as the man's banner stated) but sticking one's head in the sand is not going to change the fact that we are having storms that we don't normally have and increasing destruction from these storms (or droughts as LynnSin pointed out). If we can't put the division aside at times like these, then when the entire nation is affected by this growing concern, we'll never be able to work together to fix it or flat out live through it.
There is going to come a time, I believe, when communities will need to have their own gardens to provide food for themselves and if you can't put politics aside to feed your community, your community will be reluctant to look after you.

(1,451 posts)been affected in some way when natural disasters happen knows that the destruction that comes with a storm such as this will level the playing field. Because those who felt they were financially comfortable are in the same position as someone who's not. There were some of us in America who didn't need a bad storm to get the point across. I am just glad that they have this Administration to help them.
