at least people would have been able to salvage stuff. Those whose houses burned to the ground lost everything.

A couple of times I've heard people who lost everything in a fire say how strange and terrible it was to have no photos, nothing whatsoever of their life up to the time of the fire. I can't even imagine.

I went to public school in Queens.
I went to junior high school in Queens.
I went to high school in Queens.
My family has lived in Queens since the 1950's; before that, Brooklyn since my grandfather's people came over on the boat.

Before two days ago, I had never in my life heard of Breezy Point, Queens.

Damn sorry to have heard of it now, or this way.
