(81,267 posts)That is something I heard james watt say, out loud. During the accursed reagan era. james watt was the God-forsaken Secretary of the Interior. And that's a statement he actually made. Made me want to SCREAM!!!!! He was so repeatedly horrible that even Nancy Reagan couldn't deal with him anymore. And he was soon replaced. Not soon enough, though.

(49,001 posts)Problem is, they won't starve, their grand-children are at severe risk of starving.
But they don't think ahead that far or care that much. Thinking past the next high school football game is difficult for them.

(25,699 posts)The planet is infinite in every direction, and God wants us to do whatever we like to it. The United states is, of course, the veritable kingdom of heaven - or at least the closest you'll find on earth - and so has the special favor of god, a mandate to own the world. As a nation with the literal mandate of heaven, we are of course immune to any harm befalling us that doesn't come from Satan (liberals, muslims, gays, etc).

(7,365 posts)The nationalism shown by these right-wing crowds is almost a new ideology that has morphed into the idea that 'viewpoints' contrary to a certain position are ostensibly anti-American.
It's the easy way to win a debate. No need to discuss policy, science, data or nuance...just wave the flag, debate ends.
And yet rMoney keeps saying at his rallies that O is causing the division.

(3,682 posts)He just smiles awkwardly and goes on with a speech that leaves the issue of Sandy in the context of climate change unanswered. I hope this clip makes the nightly news. I think it could have power for at least a few people who may be primed to make the connection now.

antigone382
(3,682 posts)He responds to a call to end climate silence...by continuing climate silence. He looks awkward and unable to address the challenge put before him. He ignores a major elephant that has just entered the room.
It goes against a principle I learned in theatre. If some major disruption happens--if something knocks over or some other onstage event takes place that you weren't anticipating and which is obvious to the audience, you deal with it smoothly and in character. Otherwise the audience devotes a lot of their attention to thinking about the unaddressed disruption rather than what you're trying to get across to them. Romney missed that opportunity.
This clip isn't a game changer but it is a powerful illustrative tool. I think this is a time that a good portion of folks may be willing to acknowledge the reality and implications of climate change.

So they chant "USA" to drown out a global climate change message? Wow. How ironic. The USA must be pretty high up there among the countries that are contributing to climate change, and those drones use "USA" to silence the message. Creepy, bizarre, and embarrassing. Fitting for a republican crowd though.

Glad you're here. We ALL need to recognize this, and call them out - and make them wear it around their collective necks like so many millstones. That's why some of us refer to THEIR "America" as Dumbfuckistan. We need you to help us keep these assholes and their representatives OUT OF POWER, as far away from it as humanly possible!!!!!

(19,458 posts)remember how McCain wasn't really all the popular? That it was Palin that brought out the assholes like that? Romney/Ryan are bringing them out again. That's their base. A bunch of stupid upper middle class white bozos who think that Fox News is actually news, and that Climate Change is a lie. They are the stupidest bunch of people.. who think that just because Glen Beck said it, it's true.
