Flood insurance - up in Syracuse there is a problem-

the flood plain for Onondaga Creek overlaps with some of the poorer neighborhoods in the city. So the options are -

- redraw the lines for the flood plain (i.e. pretend if we all close our eyes, the area will never flood)

- require flood insurance, forcing people out of their homes who can't afford to live anywhere else

- somehow subsidize insurance for existing buildings without encouraging future construction.

I imagine some of these same issues apply in the areas hit by Sandy.

Do we build a flood wall for the Financial District and tell the homeowners on Breezy Point to move?

My Parents are up on Oneida, in Toad Harbour. They're away from shore, so OK. lindysalsagal Nov 2012 #1

But alot of lakefront has been developed, and I really don't see why it's allowed.

Put up a summer shack, but don't make it a real residence.

I grew up in syracuse. There's plenty of available cheap land in the country up there.

People should try to live in these places.

I know nothing of the area, but I dislike telling someone where to live, how to live, or what type, size house to live in. Seems to me trailers with pontoons attached might work.
