CNN and FOX

CNN sucks. It has an irresponsible pro-Republican bias. It promulgates some very stupid ideas.

Comparisons to FOX news (as FOX-lite, etc.) are, however, probably due to the fact that sane people don't watch FOX news and may forget what it is actually like.

The 700 club is FOX-lite. The Weekly World News is FOX-lite.

I was in a bar last night that had FOX and CNN on two screens all night, side by side, with closed captioning. CNN offers it's slant, and it is a slant, on events on planet Earth. FOX is a science fiction channel reporting 24/7 on things that never happened.

Libya, it seems, is in chaos. Lower Manhattan is not.

Whatever the controversy, CNN says, inaccurately, that both sides do it. FOX says that only one side does it... the side that does not do it it. (I learned that the Republican Party, unlike the Democrats, would never give an idealogical extremist a speaking slot at their convention.)

CNN promotes a horse-race. FOX promotes a landslide. Despite FOX news polling showing a likely Obama win or a razor-thin too close to call contest, analysts talk about how far over 350 EV Romney is certain to get because polling cannot adequately capture the fact that all real Americans despise Obama.

Poll analysis segments are conducted by Karl Rove... analyzing polls he probably secretly funded. (It is odd to have a poll analyst who famously said in 2006 that he, and only he, had the "real numbers" showing that all polls were wrong and that Democrats would not win the House.)

CNN is its own thing... a corporatist center-right reliquary for the useless self-interested chamber-of-commerce conventional wisdom that has never been right about anything.

(I need to use "reliquary" more often. It's the jewel-encrusted box where relics were kept—usually the knuckle bones or teeth of saints, but sometimes Jesus' foreskin or a shard of the true cross. I can picture CNN having a jeweled box containing the shin-bone of David Broder as a participant in their panel discussions.)

CNN operates in the long and unfortunate tradition of news that is safe for the system.

But only religious broadcasting and state television in a dictatorship are like FOX. FOX is not slanted news. It is manufactured propaganda aping the format of news broadcasting.

CNN is classic country club Republican. FOX was the Tea Party long before the Tea Party existed. CNN seeks to tamp down discontent. FOX seeks to manufacture discontent.

So stingingly accurate. CNN is just the loudest standard bearer in that regard, but it applies every bit as much to mainstream "news" in general, whether broadcast or printed newspapers or rags like 'Time', 'Newsweek', and especially 'US News & World Report'.

I just tune in to see what the current slant is. Too many good news sources on the web today to be bothered by corporate news ... unless they take it all away.
