Twitter is awash with shelters begging for supplies.
The Red Cross can only do so much. It truly does take a village in times like these.

(32,626 posts)even my little town's food drive is organized. They even put a list up of what they need the most. With the masses amount of people now in need, it makes no sense, for any politician to take it upon themselves to decide that granola bars are what is needed.

Shelters are an excellent group to help in crisis, they will be inundated with victims. Contact a local shelter and ask what you can do, what do they need, then start your drive!
The red cross asks for money because they can then purchase what is needed, not try to sort, clean, and then decide where in a county or state to send what someone donated to the effort.

(10,136 posts)Sending goods to the East Coast from the West Coast makes little sense. Donating them to local shelters, food banks, etc. who need them and who may be seeing cash donations being diverted to help the most devastated area is IMHO a better use for physical aid. There's more than enough need to go around.
