He seems like a more complicated man than I realized.
What did you think I was going to say?

(18,672 posts)I would actually find him kind of hot. I don't give a fig about his weight - it's his ideology that I find repugnant. I'm not going to forget that he is Republican, and while he may have shown a little character in the past couple of days, no doubt he will revert back to his ol' self. But for the moment, I actually like him.

(2,391 posts)Whatever he's done or whatever future political plans he may have, right at this moment, he's doing a lot of good.
So, credit where credit's due.

(39,320 posts)From what I am seeing, he seems to have the capacity for compassion - unlike most republican elected officials. Yes, Mittens was elected in MA, but by the time he had finished his first term, his approval rating was in the dumps. Not sure this is the case with Christie. Could be wrong.

(9,494 posts)Mitt and Ryan get elected but both die in office before their term ends. An Obama win is the answer to Christie's prayers (that and 1000 lbs of cannolis)!

(2,391 posts)I do believe Christie's motives are good in this disaster relief, but I also think he's filing this away for future benefit. Since our actions show others why we are worthy of trust, I can't fault him for doing good now and asking others to trust him because of that down the line. The alternative (shunning Obama and FEMA now) would be very bad for NJ. That doesn't mean I'll support him in the future, of course.

(89,249 posts)have such a hold on that party that they wouldn't let him. paul ryan is the biggest example of how wrong they are. HE was supposed to be one of their bright , rising future stars. he has been worse than Palin. i remember him being confused when people booed him at a rally. it just shows the bubble these republicans live in. he had such adoring fans among his own type and that boosted his ego.
then he goes out into the real world and sees not everyone loves him.
Christie grew up among dems/liberals. he has a good relationship with some other dems in his state. i remember his disgust at having to defend himself for appointing someone who was muslim. he also appointed someone that was openly gay to some position.

(176 posts)am kind of pleased with Christie the past couple days, as well
as our president. I think Katrina has made politicians a little afraid
of the political fallout from mishandling natural disasters,
so they might be behaving a little better for now.

(4,644 posts)Look. I appreciate what he's doing for my state. Really I do. But he's still a bully and he's still anti choice. I hope he can drag the republicans closer to the sane middle but he's not a liberal by any stretch.

(4,404 posts)He seems to care about the people he was elected to govern. Great STARTING point. Yes, and I'll give him credit for handling Sandy well. But I'm not ready to forget all the REALLY shitty things he's said about President Obama and democrats in general.
Not yet anyway.

(7,515 posts)I am pro-choice myself, but he is the only republican for whom I have any respect regarding his pro-life stance. He gave a speech a few months ago and said "If you are pro-life, as I am, you must respect the sanctity of all life" He was talking about his support for a program that would take first time, non-violent drug offenders out of the prison system and place them into in-house rehab programs for one year. He went on to say that their lives were precious and should not be lightly thrown away...or words to that effect.

(1,289 posts)And I'm under no illusion he'll magically turn into some paragon of progressive values, but sometimes events and experiences have some kind of lasting effect on people. Maybe, just maybe, when this is all over he will be a republican douchebag that will serve as a voice of reason on their side from time to time. And hopefully the media will wake up and start calling out the rethugs on their idiotic obstructionist bullshit, although I'm not holding my breath for that one...
