Can a Mayor stiff-arm the POTUS? Re: Bloomberg

President Obama should go wherever he feels he needs to go to manage this crisis:

“I talked to the president today and I talked to his chief of staff [Jack Lew] today, particularly about a trip here. What I pointed out to him is that we would love to have him, but we‘ve got lots of things to do,” Bloomberg told reporters. “And I’m not trying to diss him, but I know he had planned a trip to New Jersey, and I said, ‘That’s fine. It represents the whole region; people understand the storm.’”

Plus Bloomberg feels he must double down on his delusion that he is some sort of junior American Emperor, what with his money and his squad of Mooslim Terrist Sniffers (We travel the world! Even though we are only supposed to be in charge of NYC!!).
Blargh! on the comments at Politico - I see the righties are regurgitating the GOP lies about Benghazi, plus one idiot said if FEMA is so great, why can't they restart the subways.

If Obama wanted to go, he could go...it's not like Bloomberg could stop him. But it is a PITA having a POTUS in town during an emergency, and if resources would be taken away from getting the city back on its feet, then I think it's the right call.

Mayor Bloomberg was echoing what most commonsensical New Yorkers would have said. This has been a hellish day and a historic storm that has created huge problems on almost every front in NY. City workers are laboring around the clock. Everyday New Yorkers are experiencing stress and discomfort that has not been seen since 9/11 (and we have had crippling snowstorms, a blackout, an earthquake and several tornadoes since then).

Nobody -- nobody -- wants to see any resources used for anything except recovery, repair and rebuilding.

I am impressed with the way the President has handled this storm. I might even hazard a guess that he understood exactly where the mayor was coming from.

I wish some people around here would realize the Bloomberg is doing the Administration a favor. If Obama showed up, Fox News would scream about politicizing the catastrophe. New Jersey is close enough. He had a good day with Christie. Leave it at that.

Graciously accept Bloombergs request that he not come . His going to NY against the wishes of its mayor would be seen as a political stunt I think. Let people draw their own conclusions about Bloombergs motivations.

I can understand if some of you out-and-out hate Bloomberg but there was nothing in his statement that sounds at all out of the 'ordinary' in the midst of this emergency.

People need to chill out.
