I believe that FEMA plays a key role in working with states and localities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters, Romney said in a statement. As president, I will ensure FEMA has the funding it needs to fulfill its mission, while directing maximum resources to the first responders who work tirelessly to help those in need, because states and localities are in the best position to get aid to the individuals and communities affected by natural disasters.

(910 posts)He's still talking about local communities and states, all of which are drowned out right now. His latest flip still doesn't address what happens when a group of neighboring states go through the same disaster.

(12,254 posts)that "maximum resources" would be going to Halliburton first responders in a Rmoney presidency. Do what you can locally and if you need more help, we'll pay contractors to come help you. He'd probably send in extra security, too, to guard businesses.

(7,820 posts)He doesn't say he won't cut FEMA's funding, or that he doesn't still think states, local gov't, and the private sector can do it better. Just that he won't totally kill it. If FEMA got any money whatsoever, this statement could still technically true.

(20,317 posts)I remember when a bit of MANUFACTURED flip-flopping on the part of Kerry was enough to brand him indecisive and untrustworthy, to hear media figures tell it. But Romney can change his defining positions from week to week and it's no big deal.

(18,775 posts)All the articles I've seen on this include his statement from last year about eliminating FEMA. And they were really hammering on him about that statement in the last couple days.
And there was a lot of media call-out about his lying Jeep ad.
