Here's the spam message I got from one of my relatives on Facebook:
Who in America would vote for Obama after they read this? Obama must really want to be a one term president! The soldiers who wake up inWalter Reed Medical Center are in Maryland, not communist China. But,under the Navy's new rules, they may not know the difference!
After months of peeling away the military's core values, Obama's army is on the move. And this time, it has a high-value target: the Bible.
In a memo obtained by FRC, Navy officials have announced that "no religious items (including Bibles, reading material, and/or artifacts) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit." The new orders are buried in a four-page document about patient care, which an Army officer forwarded to us in disbelief!
Effective immediately, families, friends, and even pastors will have to check their beliefs at the door to visit one of the largest military hospitals in the United States Last night, after we circulated the memo to leaders on the Hill, an outraged Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) took to the House floor and blasted the policy!
...[this rant goes on and on...]
Even liberal Snopes says its true: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/walterreed.asp
Except that the Snopes article that it links to DEBUNKS the entire "Obama-wants-to-take-our-Bibles" meme.
The article makes very clear that this policy was a poorly worded attempt to stop outsiders from proselytizing and harassing wounded soldiers, was never enforced, and was soon rescinded. The problem is that you'd have to read the Snopes article to understand this, and doubtful that any teabaggers receiving this spam would take the time to do so. This is a PERFECT example of how they simply accept whatever propaganda is presented to them without even bothering to check the facts for themselves.

(54,087 posts)These same hysterical smears get respread and respread every few year. I remember back in 1984 when they were attacking Lee Hart as a Lady MacBeth type who was scheming to become president herself right after securing her husband his 8 years in the White House. It was point for point the very same attacks they launched on Hillary Clinton, and then Kerry's wife, and then Michelle Obama. This is why Republicans keep losing women voters. Women don't forget.
