I believe in the freedom of speech but also believe one should be held accountable for their speech

That asshole campaign staffer who sent the misinformation tweets about NYC, like how the power was being shut down across the city or NYSE was under 3 feet of water, should be held accountable for his speech.

If any emergency personal was diverted in order to investigate and follow up on some of this misinformation then I think the asshole that tweeted it should pay for the hours wasted because of this misinformation.

I also think it's shameful that the media picked up on information from a website geared towards quick messages 140 characters or less and used this as NEWS. What happened to the day when we actually verified our sources to ensure the information was accurate?

I don't think criminal misinformation is considered free speech.

the government cannot imprison you for expressing your beliefs. It does not excuse you from suffering the natural consequences of your words. It does not guarantee your immunity should your speech result in people being angry with you, disagreeing with you, or legal civil action being taken against you. You can say whatever you want, just be prepared to accept the consequences.

So many people don't get that. It irritates the shit out of me.
