Really? Does he think the millions of people without power, without homes, surrounded by water are all Gucci Bag owners? What a fucking asshole this guy is!!
Steve King: Hurricane Sandy Aid Must Have Strings To Avoid Waste On 'Gucci Bags'
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said on Tuesday that federal aid for people impacted by Hurricane Sandy should be approved only with a specific spending plan in place so funds are not used for "Gucci bags and massage parlors," like after Hurricane Katrina.
"I want to get them the resources that are necessary to lift them out of this water and the sand and the ashes and the death that's over there in the East Coast and especially in the Northeast," King said during a Tuesday evening debate in Mason City, Iowa.
"But not one big shot to just open up the checkbook, because they spent it on Gucci bags and massage parlors and everything you can think of in addition to what was necessary," he said later, referring to Hurricane Katrina.
During his final debate with Democratic challenger Christie Vilsack, the former first lady of Iowa, King doubled down on his disaster aid stance, which is that it should be paid for or not given at all.

Well, hopefully it'll help get out the vote on our side anyway.

(19,847 posts)I never heard about anything like that.
On the other hand, I did hear about the donation dump of worthless educational software that worked out quite well for Neil and Barbara Bush.

(95,337 posts)But from what I've read it was like half a dozen people out of millions that received aid. Of course the media focuses on those few people instead of the fact that millions were helped.
It's kinda like Voter Fraud. Because something like 0.00000001% of fraud has been found over the decades we need to enact draconian laws to ensure it never happens again.

(5,420 posts)I worked at the post office years ago during a big flood. Three of our routes were partially underwater for months.
Anyway, on my route that I served for about 7 years prior, I had at least a hundred people show up to claim a check (I don't remember if they were fema, but were for temporary housing & emergency needs, etc for flood victims) even though I had never ever delivered any mail to them at any address on that route. Now some would be the owners perhaps and I only knew the names of the renters. But I am fairly certain that many were just getting in on the "free for all" as they saw it.
I gave a list of names to my supervisor to give to the govt. I was told to keep it to myself as it was easier to pay it then to check the stories. They were for about 2 grand each.
So, yes there will be abuse of the system. This was an all white area, by the way. Poorer river area, but all white.

(39,961 posts)use money on a massage parlor after Katrina? We had no electricity, massive numbers of buildings that were obliterated or had boats through them, and didn't even have a standing Taco Bell anywhere in the area for several months.
This idiot doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. NOT EVEN A TACO BELL OR A MCDONALD's. Who the fuck was operating a massage parlor after Katrina? There weren't even fucking grocery stores (if the roads were passable enough for you to even GET TO ONE and you actually had gas, since that was heavily rationed).

The damn teabaggers always bemoan "bureaucracy and red tape" and we have a President who is trying to cut through all that and get immediate aid to people in a crisis who so desperately need it, so all of a sudden bureaucracy and red tape is good?
But all this ass nozzle can spout is the old, tired "OMG, YOU CAN'T GIVE POOR PEOPLE MONEY, THEY'LL JUST WASTE IT!!!
This clown seriously needs to STFU and get out of the way of the adults who are trying to help people in this emergency.
And I'll bet any amount of money that little asswipe that makes the badly edited videos shows up sooner or later...his name escapes me now. but he's the little Britefart lackey, I'm sure he'll be around to stage a "Gucci Bags and massage parlor" video. Thing is, in a disaster zone there's often falling debris from damaged buildings etc, it'd be a damn shame if something fell on him.
