race should be an embarrassment to the country. Romney is that bad of a candidate. He is the worst in American history if you add it all up. He is not even qualified to clean bathrooms he is so bad. Anyone who is able to lie about everything and allow dog whistle politics says a lot about us as a country. As bad as Bush was Romney makes him almost look like a saint.

(6,096 posts)many Romney/ryan signs are within a 20 mile radius of me (red state, Missouri) but it sickens me to think that people can be wearing such blinders....

(13,071 posts)I look at the international polls and wonder why the race is so close here. I can only assume it is a lazy electorate who still believes in the truthfulness of journalism. We are fed propaganda from even "liberal media'" and take it as fact.
It is stunning to me that, with all of lies he tells, he is still considered a mainstream candidate. He treats us as if we are stupid...and apparently we are.

(129,635 posts)It is a core value perpetuated for hundreds of years in the U.S.
Clinton wouldn't be leading Romney with 60% of the vote either if she were in office.

(17,865 posts)It is interesting to look at Jan. 82 (enough time for Reagan's policy to start taking effect) to Nov. 84. Theunemployment rate was 8.6% on its way to a high of 10.8% in Dec. 82. At election time in Oct. 84 it was 7.4%
For Obama Jan. 2010 9.7% to Sep. 2012 of 7.8%.
Another measure. The U.S. deficit at the time of the 1984 election was 5% of the GDP (on its way up to 6%. It appears the deficit is currently at 7% of GDP if deficit and GDP projections hold ($1.1T and $15.8T). You increase the top marginal by about 4% as proposed by Obama and you easily close into Reagan level deficits (without even calculating in the recovery).
It would be one of the injustices of history if Romney wins the election. Obama would be turning over a much more stable ship than he received from his predecessor. Are people's memories so short?

(16,064 posts)conservatism and religion are destroying our country. This is just a symptom of a much greater problem.
I wish I could blame FOX, Limbaugh, etc., but that is who/what a big portion of the population wants to hear. If people didn't tune in, the shows would be off the air in a month.
There are just a lot of callous, bigoted, under-educated, greedy, fundamentalist (much like the Taliban) people in this country. It really is a shame.

(4,982 posts)in offshore accts to avoid US taxes. Oh SURE. All this is perfectly LEGAL. But it's highly unethical, immoral, and grossly unpatriotic for a person who wants to be US President. It speaks to a narcissistic, sociopathic "I'm important fuck you" personality that should not be in charge of any nation.
Do Kochs, Grover Norquist, Karl Rove care? No. They just want a robosigner who will sign anything they want.

(49,533 posts)It depresses me that so many people have been duped by the Republican party. Romney is a heartless plutocrat who truly thinks he and his fellow 1%ers are superior to the rest of us. He personifies what drove us into the Bush recession, and here he is within striking distance in this election.

(32,740 posts)How could it not be a landslide? Romney is extremely unlikable, a liar, and a hypocritical tax dodging plutocrat who looks down on others who don't pay taxes (even though he doesn't pay them either). Everything about him is phony. I think he would be far worse than Bush!

(13,218 posts)It's like I'm in a surrealistic dream. I mean I can understand RepubliCONs liking bush* as he had some red-neck charm. But Mittens is charmless, graceless, brainless, ruthless, and probably has bad breath. How can Obama not be ahead 60-40 (roughly)?

(46,416 posts)is going to be in his cabinet, no one cares about how he's going to govern. He's the Not-Obama. I see as many anti-Obama signs and stickers as I see pro-Romney. If Obama is denied a second term, it will be an injustice--in any other election year, his accomplishments combined with the economy going in the right direction would guarantee a win. For a white guy.
