The feminists wanted to be included in the "Rights of Man," but that was too radical for even the most radical politicians who had ever lived or exerted power at the time.

Slavery was abolished - but women were not assumed to possess the mental capacity to deal with political issues.

Yes. That sort of thinking has gone on among most civilizations that we know of.
