Wow! Never had that happen before.
Also, received a reverse 911 call from the chief of police to let us know they will do everything possible to keep safe, and gave tips on how to keep ourselves safe.
Holy shite! That's enough to make you pretty nervous!

(14,040 posts)the last thing the President needs or states want is the storm to effect the election outcome. I bet some municipalities have politicians up for reelection and if they are seen as handling the storm badly, who do you think gets voted against come Nov. 6?

(28,581 posts)Mostly concerned about loss of power and or flooding. if the water starts to rise we are grabbing the cars and bugging out to a friends house. Hopefully it will be a big blustery nothing

(60,010 posts)I would not hesitate to be safe rather than sorry. That sucker is HUGE, and will cover a LOT of area. Plus storm surge can rise VERY fast.
If we were in that storm's path down here, with all our history/experience of hurricanes, I would be in heading for friends in Texas.
Seriously.
Post storm is almost as bad as the storm itself.

(28,581 posts)My son is also an Nat guard airman attached to Otis where he does mobile communication type work to link fed, state and local responders. Since my parents live close to the base ZI think he is going to head down tomorrow so it will be easier for him to go if he gets called up. Times like these make me very proud of what he does.

(36,223 posts)But I heard on the news today that in MA, yes we will get a lot of rain, but they don't expect flooding.

(154,021 posts)at predicting these things. In the meantime listening to my localish FD putting out a fire.

(36,223 posts)and that they will be working, and to stay safe?
It's certainly a first for me!

I'm not sure what the outer cape is supposed to get from Sandy.

(28,581 posts)and remember that Nstar took alot of heat for not managing storms well in the recent past. Sounds like they are trying to turn things around. Good for them

(17,047 posts)I'd be scared too if that happened!
If they ask you to evacuate to do you have a place to go? I know Texas is far away but you are always welcome here!
Stay SAFE!

I'll guess I'll find out.

(13,900 posts)the same thing. Went to the store early this morning and it was quiet but the liquor store was a zoo. I have an emergency generator that is hard wired and powers the whole house, all my outside stuff is in and I have plenty of food for the dogs and the cat...also have scotch I'm ready!

(42,770 posts)cocktails ! At least no snow, if the power goes out (for people without generators)

(13,900 posts)warm. We lost power for almost 2 weeks in an ice storm in 2008 and that caused terrible damage to peoples' homes.

I have Ngrid and they started texting us this morning to prepare.
I am near the harbor in Salem so I am a little nervous about flooding.

(9,893 posts)I went to the grocery store a few hours ago. There was a big run on bottled water and canned things that can be eaten cold, like canned chili, stew, and my old favorite, hash.
The lineup at the gas station was unbelievable.
It looks like we may miss the worst of it, but when that derecho/straight line wind came through here two years ago, we lost power for a week.
This time the winds will be less, but more sustained. The derecho lasted 15 minutes, the 30-45 mph, with gusts, could last for hours. My bedroom on the third floor of a townhouse, is one a rise and exposed to the east. The derecho made the whole place shake, and I may be spending time in the lower level of this place until the winds die down.
I say better safe than sorry.
I just hope that we don't have a problem with water, but I'll be filled anything that I can for potable and non-potable (latrine flush) tomorrow.
Everybody get prepared and stay safe!
Take care everyone.
