4. This occurred to me, too, but while this might be their rationale

(at least ostensibly), you'd have to be as Martian as Romney to think that anyone would interpret it to mean anything but that their campaign is losing. Maybe Romney really is running the whole thing and nobody's brave enough to tell him it's a bad idea. (Works for me!)

Have a dizzying number of slogans, none of them good. A good slogan might offset some of the image problems associated with position shifting, but the slogans themselves are muddling the message. Someone in the Romney campaign really ought to take a community college class in Marketing.
