suppose the divorce testimony is unsealed...
and, suppose it indicates a reasonable suspicion that RobMe lied...
and, suppose the only way to prove that is to subpoena RobMe's tax returns
could that actually happen

(179 posts)Mitt Romney -- Author Who Saw Divorce Transcripts Says Romney Didn't Tell Truth About Staples
"According to Ranson, in the video, the judge asked Romney if the Staples stock was worth anything, and then asked why Romney had continued buying the stock, and Romney said he'd been hoodwinked in that investment."

(28,158 posts)The gag order on the ex-wife wasn't removed though.
The suit was filed in 1990 by Stembergs ex-wife, Maureen Sullivan Stemberg, who sought to amend the couples financial agreement after Staples went public in 1989 and began trading at 10 times the stock value she had received in the divorce a year earlier.
Romney testified during the lawsuit in June 1991. The nature of his testimony was not immediately clear Thursday. The Globe filed a motion on Oct. 15 to unseal Romneys testimony, which was impounded along with all other case files from the Stembergs 10-year legal battle.
Parties in the case also signed a confidentiality agreement that Gloria Allred, the attorney for Sullivan-Stemberg called the most comprehensive gag order I have ever seen in my 36 years of practicing law. The Globe originally moved to amend the confidentiality agreement to allow parties in the case to speak publicly about Romneys testimony but dropped the request on Thursday when Stemberg, who had opposed the Globes request to unseal the testimony, rescinded his objection.

(1,956 posts)If he did lie, it's long past any statute of limitations, and no court would deem to subpeona information for a case that can't be tried.

(8,694 posts)she wants the gag order lifted so her client can discuss her "interactions" with Romney.
It's not just his undervaluing some stock, I think he threatened her.
