http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/26/nyregion/gilberto-valle-accused-in-plot-to-kidnap-women-and-cook-them.html?_r=0A New York police officer was arrested Wednesday in Queens by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on suspicion of a federal kidnapping conspiracy in which he discussed cooking and eating female body parts, according to a criminal complaint.
The evidence against the officer, a six-year veteran of the New York Police Department, consists of e-mails and instant messages in which he was discussing plans to kidnap, rape, torture, kill, cook and eat body parts of a number of women, according to the complaint against the officer, Gilberto Valle.

In one message to a co-conspirator, Officer Valle wrote that he was contemplating cooking a person over a low heat, keep her alive as long as possible, according to the complaint.
The allegations in the complaint really need no description from us, Mary E. Galligan, the F.B.I. acting assistant director, said in a statement. They speak for themselves. It would be an understatement merely to say Valles own words and actions were shocking.

(10,960 posts)Nobody talks about the 80-90% of police who seldom cook and eat anyone.
Sometimes the anti-police bigotry here gets me down.

(31,849 posts)But, unless the "good protect and serving" officer named a specific target, any first year admitted attorney will get him off ... {hee ... hee ... hee ... I said "get him off"} ... by arguing that the officer was just engaging in and communicating a fantasy.
But that said, that officer is now, or soon will be, unemployed ... and probably, unemployable in the state of New York.

(9,762 posts)It goes to a whole 'nother level when they talk about keeping her alive as long as possible and prolonging the torture as long as possible. That level of hatred for women - because he doesn't want to do this to men, only women - shocks and frightens me.

(50,566 posts)from all this rape talk this election season ... I had known there was widespread, deep-seated hatred of women in this country, but the extent of it has shaken me up. It seems like a significant percentage of men, not just a fringe element, loathe women and are obsessed with controlling them, otherwise Romney and these Senate candidates would be lagging by many, many points or would have been forced out of their races. It seems like there's almost nothing a Republican male can say that would be too anti-woman for a big chunk of the population of this country.

(12,325 posts)UPDATE: More from ABC 7: The officer's name is Gilberto Valle III, and he was charged in connection with a plot to kidnap and cook as many as 100 women, including his girlfriend. The complaint stems from a series of online conversations Valle allegedly had with an accomplice, in which he remarks how "tasty" his girlfriend looks.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly released the following statement:
This is a bizarre case. We suspended the officer immediately upon his arrest, and a review is now underway to determine whether there was anything in his background that should have alerted the department to his alleged proclivities. I want to commend the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau detectives and FBI agents who worked jointly on this investigation.

(12,325 posts)The NYPD officer who was arrested Thursday for allegedly attempting to "kidnap women and cook them" was denied bail during his hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court yesterday. Gilberto Valle, a 28-year-old married six-year veteran of the NYPD, has been charged with conspiracy to kidnap and accessing a computer without authorization, for which he faces up to life in prison. It's now been revealed how Valle was caught: his estranged wife, Kathleen Cooke Mangan, discovered his tactical plan, which he called his blueprint for Abducting and Cooking, on his computer last month: "When she saw what was on the computer, what he was into, she literally ran out of the house with just the clothes on her back," a law-enforcement source told the Post.
Mangam contacted the FBI about the weird stuff she found on his computer (including the names, photos, dates of birth, heights, weights and bra sizes of dozens of women), then immediately left the state with the couples year-old baby daughter. I was thinking of tying her body onto some kind of apparatus, he allegedly wrote to a co-conspirator in one of many email and IM conversations. Cook her over a low heat, keep her alive as long as possible.
Public defender Julia Gatto initially argued for bail, saying the Valle was only guilty of a "deviant fantasy." "There's no actual crossing the line from fantasy to reality," Gatto said. "At worst this is someone who has sexual fantasies about people he knows and he talks about it on the Internet." But Assistant U.S. Attorney Hadassa Waxman pointed out that he was too close to carrying out the "grotesque and disturbing" plots: "[He had] plans to kidnap, rape, torture, kill and eat the body parts of young women, some of whom the FBI has identified and they acknowledge knowing the defendant for a period of time," she said.
Valle, who attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens and then studied psychology, criminology and criminal justice at the University of Maryland, joined the police force in 2006. His younger brother denied the charges and defended him to reporters: Hes a nice guy, he said. Im upset. Neighbors were in shock still as well: Thats absolutely horrifying, said David Rosenblatt. I never heard of anyone doing that, let alone in this building. This is supposed to be one of the nicer areas of Queens.
