On MSNBC he was saying this election is much different then 08, where if this rally was being held back then there would be 50,000 people but today he would say there are only 5,000 at the rally.
They are determined, I don't know what their end game is, but they are doing a great job of working hard to get there (energize R's with a hope they could win to make the race closer?).
Rally in Tampa, October 25.

(9,874 posts)Certainly the turnout would be larger if it were long pre-planned on the agenda or thrown together the last minute as this rally probably was. I remember in 1992 receiving a frantic call from Dem county headquarters to show up at a diner where Bill Clinton was being interviewed that wasn't planned until the night before. I went and there were only a few hundred people there. He walked the rope line afterwards and I got to see him up close and personal, a thrill for me. On the other hand, I attended a rally for him that WAS planned and over 20,000 people showed up.

I don't know, but you bring up another good point. I'm ticked that they keep wording it like he's the underdog that has to struggle to get a couple people in the door and no one wants him reelected.

This was Todd interviewing Williams who is with Obama on this campaign blitz, they were showing the stage while waiting for Obama to show up and if you went by Williams words you'd think Obama might as well stay in DC for the rest of the election.

(20,629 posts)until the night before, which of course is going to limit the number of people actually getting to attend, but that didn't stop a large and enthusiastic crowd from showing up.
Here's a nice account of the visit from start to end...

(3,666 posts)I would have gone, but I couldn't get down there to get a ticket the day before. The visits are on short notice, more notice means more people.

(94,598 posts)Either there's (approximately) 5,000 people there or not. If there are, and that's less than the crowds he got four years ago, that's newsworthy, if not particularly surprising. This is a closer election, and an incumbent with a record isn't always as appealing a rally subject as a new candidate. Live with reality.

(46,192 posts)if you don't have that space, they aren't showing up.
some large venues, very large parks, stadiums, very large cities, you can have those kind of crowds, but not just ANYWHERE you hold a rally.
come on, you gotta know that.
Al Gore attracted a crowd of 50k in Chicago in 2000, later he'd hold some smaller rallies --is it because he got less popular a couple days later? No.

(32,712 posts)Not because I didn't want to go, but because each time I was completely unaware of the visit until it was too late. One time I drove an hour to try to get tickets to a town hall (either in 2008 or 2010) only to find out that there was no more room). It never occurred to me to try to go to the DNC convention until a few days before, and that was way too late. I would do almost anything to go to a town hall or even a rally where he's speaking!

(46 posts)and honestly I have my doubts Obama will carry FL this time around. The amount of Romney/Ryan vs Obama/Biden bumper stickers and yard signs is depressing. My job requires that I travel to different areas within Hillsborough County and over the past month I have seen zero Obama stickers/yard signs and tons of Romney's. I hope Obama supporters are icognito, but I am worried.
By the way, I am not exaggerating about those Obama stickers/yard signs, I do mean ZERO over the past month.

Sad but true.
every ObamaBiden yard sign i have put up has been stolen/vandalized within 4 or 5 days. the mentality and maturity of people is appalling. i have never seen so much hate and resentment out of a group of people in my life. stay classy tea party
