Why is Mitt mailing it in?

Why are Mitt and Paul barely campaigning? While Obama has embarked on a 48-hour marathon swing through the swing states, Mitt appeared at only one event today and Ryan none (have I got that right?). Is it because Mitt is one pooped plutocrat, or because he's assured the fix is in, so he doesn't really need to campaign?

that theorized Romney's real goal is to become head of the Mormon church, and he's using the presidency as a stepping stone. I liked the reasoning of it.

If true, then Romney might be less passionate about winning than previous candidates.

I think he's already had a small glimpse of how annoying it would be, particularly with his mindset vs the public and congress, etc, etc.

His internal polls probably show the futility of heavy campaigning everywhere. If they can't flip Ohio (by whatever means), they're done. Lyin' isn't throwing himself into the constant spotlight right now, either. He's probably trying to disassociate himself from this sinking ship to keep his future hopes alive.

who gives the orders and has everyone else do the work for him. He didn't realize how much effort it takes a for someone to run a national campaign and he thought he could use other people's money to saturate the airwaves and win that way.

I see it used in the media a lot, which tells me it is probably not a very meaningful expression.

I can't remember the scenario but it's an extremely small probability. The overall probability is less then .5%. I'm not sure it would be a bet they could invest in.

Mitt Romney is just not a likeable or inspiring candidate. He flopped in every debate since the first one, and he's still trying to ride the steam generated from that now-ancient political event.

It may be risky, but keeping himself away from the stage so that you don't generate another unflattering meme or commit a gaffe is probably the best bet he can make at this point. It's clear that he has no real plan to sell.
