For the record, there was nothing remotely racist in my use of the phrase "shuck and jive" a phrase which many people have used, including Chris Matthews, Andrew Cuomo, and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to name a few off the top of my head. In fact, Andrew Cuomo also used the phrase in reference to Barack Obama, and the fact that Mr. Cuomo and I used the phrase in relation to President Obama signifies nothing out of the ordinary. I would have used the exact same expression if I had been writing about President Carter, whose foreign policy rivaled Obamas in its ineptitude, or about the Nixon administration, which was also famously rocked by a cover-up.
Ive been known to use the phrase most often when chastising my daughter Piper to stop procrastinating and do her homework. As she is part Yupik Eskimo, Im not sure if this term would be deemed offensive when its directed at her or if it would be considered benign as in the case of Chris Matthews use of it in reference to Rachel Maddow. Just to be careful, from now on Ill avoid using it with Piper, and I would appreciate it if the media refrained from using words and phrases like igloo, Eskimo Pie, and when hell freezes over, as they might be considered offensive by my extended Alaska Native family.
The outrageously outraged reaction to this expression from perennial hypocrites like Chris Matthews has only made me laugh. Mr. Matthews, let me share with you my favorite Irish toast: May we always be happy, and may our enemies always know it.

Here's my comment. I did it quick, I couldn't stand the fact that my facebook page was showing that I liked her page.....uuuggghhh....
Of course it was racist, you're a racist. And your Eskimo references are stupid. By the way, when are you gonna address Ann Coulter on her use of the word retard? Or are you gonna be a hypocrite?

(4,644 posts)I suppose there could be lots of tea leaf reading in this one, but now its AG Andrew Cuomo on Talk 1300, minutes after the governor came on. Cuomo, to be fair, has been on the radio show a few times, if memory serves me, but his take on Hillarys win in NH is that that small-state primary with its retail politics is a good thing.
Its not a TV crazed race. Frankly you cant buy your way into it, Cuomo said. You cant shuck and jive at a press conference, he added. All those moves you can make with the press dont work when youre in someones living room.
(Weve been getting calls from the Cuomo people on this who want to point out, correctly, that the AG was not referring to Barack Obama when he used the phrase shuck and jive, but to what politicians in general do with the media. Cuomos point was when candidates meet a substantial proportion of primary voters or caucus goers in person, such as in NH or Iowa, there is a certain genuineness that can be avoided in a big-state media-heavy campaign)
