I have never written about this but here I go .....
Years ago I had a good friend die as the result of fighting a rapist ...... I knew she
wanted more out of her relationship w/ me than I was willing to give but she had
one the best and truest hearts in the world. She got shot in the throat but still she was
able to call 9-11 but because of her wounds she had a loss of oxygen to her brain
and which caused a vegetative coma ..... she died w/ in 18 months .... both of her
elderly parents died because of the stress with in a year of the crime too.
The police later arrested a serial rapist ... a detective told me that he was
a good suspect in the attack on my friend. I would not go to his trial on
another rape case because of what I wanted to do that man ...... it still
bothers me to have to kill a woodchuck in a live trap @ a customer's
home but I would have had no problem "spending time" w/ that piece
of crap.
These are feelings that I have had deep inside of me and after time i don't
think about my friend anymore or her attacker but when these scum buckets
bring up rape in a political context it puts me in a very bad place.
How dare these bastards talk about rape, God's plan, and what they think
is the right thing to do?
If you are a woman or you have ever cared about a woman how could
you vote ever for "them"?

(60,015 posts)As a man with three women he adores (wife and two daughters), the right wings' attitudes toward women are simply indescribable.
Thanks for sharing your story. It certainly deeply moved me.

(41,987 posts)There's a smugness to the pronouncements the RW makes, a lack of understanding and empathy and compassion that I find truly hard to fathom. The only succor we can provide is to create a world where rape is almost unheard of, and when it does happen the victim and those who love her (or him) are treated with love, with respect, and are given choices and help with going on with their lives as best they can.
And we can create that through mAking those RW fools and their ideas a thing of the past.
It was brave of you to post. Peace.

(64 posts)Doesn't deserve to be exterminated. There is no innocence to these Republican bastards.
Too bad we can't treat them they way that we do the woodchucks... Fortunately, the old, angry white man contingent is dying off, so nature is doing that for us. Within less than a generation there will still be people who vote Republican, but there will not be a viable national party left. They'll win local, and state contests, and there will still be a smattering of Republicans who get into the House and the Senate, but after we reach that tipping point, they'll never have a majority of either house of Congress ever again, and they'll never win the Presidency again either.
Mark my words, it's coming, more slowly than I would prefer, but it IS coming. They know it, hence their desperate employment of every dirty trick in the book to try and forestall their own political demise for one (hopefully) last time.
Karl Rove once spoke of his hope to create a "permanent Republican majority"... Well, thanks to the cacophany of complete and utter lunatic assholes who comprise the Right today, we (again, hopefully) will have a permanent Democratic majority for years, nay, decades to come. A-Fucking-Men!

(814 posts)Anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted or knows someone who has, is reliving it now and if you multiply just the female statistics of 1 in 3 by the age of 18, that touches a lot of people who were victimized or had loved ones who were, female and male. I'm just so tired of reliving my own family nightmare every 4 years, so tired of the men who make rape/reproduction/abortion etc. an issue in every election, when they so clearly are just pandering to their party's religious convictions and really don't give a shit.
God, the absolute stupidity of nearly half the people in this country is just so depressing. That's what religion does and why I'm an Atheist.

(9,992 posts)Rape is a CRIME. The GOP claims to be the party of law and order but, to them, rape is a "gift from God"/"just another method of conception"/rarely "legitimate".
How can ANYONE, man or woman, vote for these rape lovers?????

It hurts. A lot.

(10,283 posts)death to avoid rape. Yep. Otherwise they might be "committing fornication". Hell if I dug deep enough I could probably find a Watchtower that claims the child produced from rape is a gift from Jehovah. Whether they said that or not, they sure as hell wouldn't let you abort it, that's for damn sure.
I shit you not.
I knew / but did not know that they were wrong. It screws with a young person's mind.
