There's a story developing in La Porte County, Indiana. It seems a voter purge in 2011 went rogue. The local GOP successfully purged about 20% of our voters%16 of them illegally, it seems. Fortunately, they were caught red handed at the last minute, and County scrambles to get eligible voters back in system.
In today's paper, La Porte County Democratic Chair John Jones has called for Federal Investigation of election fraud here.
http://www.heraldargus.com/articles/2012/10/24/news/local/doc50872d6ed7555164195815.txt
If that 80% error rate holds for the entire purge, about 4% were removed correctly.
That's in the normal range.
But, about 16% of our voters were purged incorrectly.
That's about one in every six voters.
Local headlines assure us we'll get back the whole 20%. Our Election Board is REALLY embarrassed that they were alerted to this very problem in February, but failed to correct it.

(26,626 posts)who are so convinced they are the true believers in God and country and white Christian supremacy, they will do whatever is necessary for a GOP win. This is what makes them so scary, they really believe in their twisted agenda and that they are defeating the Godless traitors who would take white America straight to hell! Or something like that.

(39,909 posts)Depriving citizens of their constitutional rights is a Federal crime.
Holding meetings to discuss and implement strategies to deprive citizens of their right to vote is Conspiracy.
Targeting minorities could probably qualify as a hate crime.
Instead of wasting his time keeping our country safe from Pot Smokers, our Attorney General should make an "example" of a few of these assholes, and not just low level foot soldiers.
The only reason they keep doing this is because we let them.

(31,235 posts)country as illegitimate because of all the stories swirling around these voter purge irregularities. We've got well paid companies tossing valid registration forms in dumpsters, and repuke Sec's of State, unceremoniously, dropping folks like flies from voter rolls. And then there's the trickery happening in PA, where people are still being told they need to show ID, even though the court ruled otherwise.
Romney will be as unpopular as Bush was, and they'll have to start WW III to get his numbers up, just so they can rape the earth for Rmoney's big money donors.

To Republicans, the ends justify the means.
I've come to believe the same philosophy may be held by Mormons, especially those deeply involved in evangelizing.

(23,957 posts)the economic recovery is just kicking into gear now. there's a reason Rmoney can make the "12 million jobs" claim with confidence, that's what's been forecast to happen anyway. if Rmoney wins this election, he'll be able to take credit for the whole recovery, and win easily 4 years from now.

Voting should be easier than buying cold medicine!
Maybe they should just get off their lazy butts and register more voters for their side? I know it takes more work than eliminating valid voters from ours, but suck it up.

(31,706 posts)...it's one of the suburban Chicago counties and surely helped make a difference in '08 when Obama won the state. It's a purple county and no surprise a target for voter suppression efforts. Hopefully all have been restored to the rolls...but I have little confidence that there will be any follow up on this once the election passes...

(1,122 posts)In 2004, John Kerry won the county by less than a full percentage point. In 2008, Barack Obama won LaPorte County by over 20 points (reaching 60 percent of the countywide vote).
This is no accident.
No accident this corruption happens in presidential elections. And favoring the Republicans.
I'm tired of it. And I'd like to know what Democrats are doing about it.

(5,275 posts)When will the truth about what the republicans have become reach critical mass? Or will it?
It's now run by combinations of bigots, religious holy roller nutjobs, con men and women. They set the agenda and any half way sane republican has to march to the beat or face the wrath of Fox and Rush.
All you have to hear to realize these people are zealot nuts is the charge that Obama is a marxist or communist - when Nixon was largely to the left of Obama. Fruit Loop Central, that's the new party of Lincoln, yikes.
