1. Would his job happen to be in the service industry?

If so, chances are still likely that he's still in the 47%.

However, I haven't received a response yet. We're also mutual friends of many in the military so I pointed out kindly how they and I are in the "47%"

But I de-friended some that appeared to be motivated by racism, defended the ones motivated by racism, or were just asking for a visit from the Secret Service in what they posted.

I unfriended someone who said that it was inappropriate to post political comments on Facebook.

Of course I would love for everyone to vote for the candidate(s) of my choice.

I'm all for freedom of speech. Heck, show your pride, but do it with FACTS. Not this crap. I have no better word for it. It's pure crap and yet they still throw it all over the place.

I don't mind too much if they post "like" MItt romney's website or whatever, but I've got one friend who just won't let go of the Benghazi thing, as if somehow the prez and Hillary wanted those people to die or something. I'm getting pretty sick of her BS.

If it's just acquaintances and assholes, shitcan the account. They're a data-mining load of assholes, anyway.

it's used to keep in contact with friends who were and still are in the military that I served with. Unfortunately, there are those who are more "addicted" to facebook than the rest of us and use it as their own form of communication.

17. Dump the bozos, then. If you're not addicted to the facebook (I don't get the appeal, either),

then strip it down to just the people who have real positive meaning for you.

You know, there's an old adage, "Go where you're celebrated, not where you're tolerated"--I say take that attitude to the facebook venue, and keep the people who celebrate you, and pitch the bastards who "tolerate" you or make you feel like shit in any way over the side.

If you're willing to put up with these people in other areas, but don't want to hear their political garbage, tell them not to engage you on political matters because you don't want to hear it. If they do it anyway, lower the boom. When they send you an email or message crying about your stiff-arming them, tell them you told 'em so and they didn't listen to you!

The other option is just stay off the facebook until after the election...then, (Insert favorite deity or lack of same here) willing, you can get back on the site and rub their annoying nose in a decisive win!

Life is too short to put up with assholes. Good luck finding an amenable solution!

18. Use the filter feature and shuttle those posts into a specific folder.
Wed Oct 24, 2012, 05:32 PM
Oct 2012

On the left side of your Newsfeed page, under Friends, you can create a folder named "Wingnut" (or whatever strikes your fancy!) and automatically put posts from those FB friends into that folder. When/if you feel like reading them, you can click on that folder. If not, you can leave the folder alone. They'll never know. This way, you can keep them as a FB friend -- probably longer than if you read their posts all the time.

The question was asked in the context of the OP and the conundrum presented therein. My question was presented in an effort to assist the poster in exploring an alternative resolution to the vexation experienced.

When the "pain in the ass" factor overrides the usefulness of the social media platform, the question of "How much do I really NEED this shit?" becomes valid.

How important is this person to me? If important, I block. If not, I unfriend.

If you "Block" someone, that person can't even see that you have an account, and all connections (friending, relatives, etc) are cut.

You can "Hide" someone if you want to keep the acquaintance for work or social purposes, and you can prevent them from commenting or posting on your wall.

I have a nephew who is Republican and posts stupid stuff about Obama. But he's family. What I did was hide his posts or "un-subscribe" to his posts. If it's family or friends you can do this or set it so only most important posts show up on your feed.

If it is just a friend or acquaintance then I would just un-friend them if the person doesn't really mean anything to you.

Lately there is a post going around that says something like "Click 'like' if you think all welfare recipients should be drug tested." Something like that. I un-friended someone just this week who posted that and then added the comment: "I agree!.' Stupid. Poor people are not the ones who have caused the economic crisis.

15. I've blocked 3 people in the past week...

and posted on my status that for every pro-Romney, anti-Obama, racist, negative piece of crap that shows up on my wall I will donate $5 to OFA, in the name of the person posting. I also promised to exclude them from all my pro-Obama posts. So far, I've donated $20, and I'll admit I didn't use their names. The first one was from a relative who I'm sure hadn't scrolled down far enough to see my status. She rarely posts anything, so I took pity on her this time. The other three...well, that was my cousin, and what he posted was so vile, hateful and violent that I not only blocked him, I reported him to FB. I figured making a donation in his name might further incite him to god-knows-what.
