Rape remarks + Romney endorsement = Game Changer?

All we need to do is move the needle a few points, and we get at least an EC landslide. Repugnants know what's at stake in these remarks and Romney's endorsement.

As they almost always have been, the Romney campaign is proving itself to be flat-footed, tone deaf, and non-nimnble, again.

It's the undecided, especially persuadable women, that will change the game. This could, should, and I hope will expand the already huge gender gap into a gender chasm.

But, more likely it results in Obam surpassing his 2008 total of 365:

Im tired of all those MEN telling us that rape is just God's way of impregnating women.

Rape is the only way inferior men can get their weak, pathetic genes passed down to the next generation. Why would I want to be involved with helping them succeed while risking my own life carrying a baby to term?

Let's face it, I bet there are some women out there that were kinda thinking of voting for RMoney but, if this is played successfully and repeatedly, it could widen the "gender gap" even further.

but this kind of comment from Mourdock just blows my mind. Remember this is the guy who is proud that "I say exactly what I think" and "I like inflicting my opinions on people". He is an embarrassment to the fine (if misguidedly conservative) Indiana people. Think Lugar would have made this statement?

16. Romney's balancing act
Wed Oct 24, 2012, 02:38 PM
Oct 2012

He knows that without complete and enthusiastic support from the wingnuts he's toast. So he cannot alienate them. But he also knows that there aren't enough of them to take him over the top. So he has to have the help of non-wingnuts. Problem is, it's so hard to have it both ways, cause the wingnuts are pretty unforgiving of perceived Rino-ness and interpret the slightest move away from purity as abandonment.

If Romney were a skilled triangulator ala Clinton, I would be a lot more afraid of him. But he's not close to being adept enough to pul off the balancing act that he needs to pull off.

The only thing that has kept him in the game this long, I believe, is our guys truly abysmal performance in the first debate. If the Obama that showed up in rounds 2 and 3 had shown up in the first round, this thing would have been put the bed awhile ago.

Romney doesn't have any room to back away from this guy now and throw him overboard. If he did, his wingnut base, would be up in arms. There's only so much moderation they are willing to tolerate, even in the name of victory.

If the Obama campaign runs their ad attacking this endorsement everywhere that is still being contested, it will help to show to what length Romney is willing to go to accommodate the wingnuts. That will play a major role in moving those persuadable voters who are on the fence, and who have been reassured by Romney's recent "moderation." This says despite Romney's personal tone of moderation, what you get when you get him is a whole host of scary people to whom he is beholden.

isn't going to be swayed by anything at this point. I'm pretty convinced the man could strip naked, howl at the moon while pissing himself on camera and some people will be dumb enough to vote for him.

The right wing would vote for a Republican that stated publicly that his plan was to grind people into hamburger meat for export as his economic plan. They are that poisoned and deluded by Fox News. The sad thing is, every one of them casting that vote would be stupid enough to believe it wouldn't happen to their family member or someone they cared about.

That's how dumb the current crop of Republicans and Romney supporters are.
