Imagine checking into a hotel as a couple and being required to show a marriage license before you are allowed to rent a room. As crazy as that sounds, it could be possibility in the future with the GOP in power. The zeal to overturn Roe V Wade also includes the overturn of Griswold guaranteeing the right to use contraception.
The churches and the RW are determined to control the lives of men as well as women when it comes to their private lives. These same fundies believe sexual activity is only legal for married couples and to have children. All other sex is taboo under their religious beliefs. In fact it is still illegal for couples to have sexual relations in the state of Utah unless they are married.
Late in the19th and in the early 20th century it was illegal to sleep together or co habitate without a marriage license. In ht post Civil War era contraception was illegal in many states.
As far out as it sounds all you have to do is look at how the RW is limiting abortion and family planning. Their attack on family planning is a serious threat to freedom. It is now obvious that they are not serious about small government when it involves personal conduct.
Mike Papentonio covered the RW efforts to control peoples lives on progressive talk radio today. The American Taliban is serious about limiting the freedom of citizens' private lives in the name of religion.

(4,742 posts)First time I did the hooptie-do was with a girlfriend at 18 years old in a cheap motel room. Best 90 seconds of my life.
But seriously...I love the "get Government out of my life" assholes but then they want to decide where and when a guy stck his pencil and in who's pencil holder. Ridiculous.

(10,602 posts)find their over the top rhetoric rally atrocious. Why they are not getting open kick back I do not know. But all this rhetoric about pregnancies caused by rape should get instant back lash. It is beyond moon bat talk. These people will not give up unless someone gets in their face right away.
When I look at how women's health care has been curtailed over time, it is alarming that we allow them to interfere with what is legal. No one likes confrontation, but at some point women's right advocates will be forced into it.

(28 posts)That would cost Donald Trump way too money. He'd become a democrat before he'd let that happen
