(2,841 posts)What got Mr Gore, other than corruption was that they only asked for recounts in a set of Dem leaning areas, he should have shouldered the cost and paid for a statewide recount, but in many states they only cost if the margin is over a set fraction of a percent.

(42,862 posts)It was an unnecessary sacrifice, but he fell on his sword "willingly" because he could see that a prolonged investigation (simply giving him his due process) was starting to rip-apart and weaken the Democratic party. He put the good of the party above his own interests by foregoing what was fair and right.
Honestly, I think he should run again. Let the voters decide. I'd welcome him back with open arms and a tear or two in my eyes.
